About this listen

Many poetic works can inspire, but few, like this one, have the power to change your life. These verses rank with the greatest mystical poetry of all time: the works of St. John of the Cross, Rumi, Kabir, Mirabai, and Omar Khayyam.

In this book, Paramhansa Yogananda - the great master of yoga and author of the classic Autobiography of a Yogi - shares his exquisitely beautiful thoughts and words filled with longing for the divine. Yogananda was not only a spiritual master, but a master poet, whose poems revealed the hidden divine presence behind even everyday things.

Each of these prayer-poems has been spiritualized by this great man of God. Open this book, pick a poem at random and read it. Mentally repeat whatever phrase appeals to you. Within a short time, you will see your consciousness transformed. This book has the power to rapidly accelerate your spiritual growth, and provides hundreds of delightful ways for you to begin your own conversation with God.

Edited by his disciple Swami Kriyananda.

The most beautiful book of prayer. Stirs the soul & summons the heart into a deeper place of worship. Just beautiful.

So Kriyananda / Donald, who narrated this book, is a molester, look it up. And he reads this entire book in a bizarre Vincent Price lilt, as if he’s telling you a spoooky ghost story. This beautiful book was written by Donald’s teacher, Yogananda, who was a beautiful creator. The material itself is excellent. If you listen to it at a faster speed, Donald / Kriyananda’s voice sounds a little less creepy, if you can only forget what he did to his female disciples.

Creepy narrator

This version is edited by and read by Swami Kriyananda. who should be stripped of his Swami title for sexual predation. I might be able to get around that if it weren't for his slimy slowed down speech. He fancies himself a poet, sounds like a stage actor and I can hear him swallow between sentences from time to time. I was actually looking for the book with this title from Jeffrey Wolf Green and find I shall have to read that from a book. Huge disappointment. I am a fan of Yogananda who originally wrote this text. But he left his organization in the hands of slimy egotists.

Can't stand the narrator's voice

Paramhansa Yogananda's 'Autobiography of a Yogi' is a great listen or read..And this may be an inspirational read. Often I found Swami Kriyananda's reading 'sing song' and I was greatly distracted from the words.

Perhaps much better to read yourself

I did not think twice about verifying whether this was a book BY Paramahansa Yogananda or if someone was using his name to publish the work. (There is no patent on Paramahansa Yogananda!). Had I noticed who the NARRATOR was, I would have immediately known that this is another publication that is only purported to have been blessed by the master when it is in fact the work of the narrator who had, in his outward behavior, proved to be neither a swami or steadfast devotee of Yogananda's. The SRF publishes the master's teachings and keeps them as he left them. They make no claim that Yogananda privately taught anything different to a single one of them. Kriyananda makes claim to the fact that the master put him to the task of speaking (editing) on his behalf - with no proof whatsoever to support his claim. After Yogananda's passing, the claims of favoritism and private works between the master and the narrator were made all entirely BY the narrator. Later, due to his behavior, his resignation was called for from the board of the SRF. If you look up information on Kriyananda, you will note that he made up - and played by his own rules - which often changed to suit his motivations. I'm sure that once upon a time, perhaps when he was a new devotee, his heart was in the right place. If you must read this book, do so with with caution and the awareness that Yogananda's name was used to publish this book.

NOT a Self-Realization Fellowship book
