About this listen

Nothing could have prepared Jay Granger for the arrival of two FBI agents at her door - or for the news they brought. Her ex-husband, Steve, had been in a terrible accident that had left him gravely injured. The FBI needed Jay to confirm his identity.

The man Jay finds lying in the hospital bed is almost unrecognizable. Exhausted and afraid, Jay tentatively declares that he is Steve Crossfield. But the man who awakens from the coma is not at all as Jay remembers Steve. And he remembers nothing of their life together. Suddenly nothing is familiar. Not his appearance, not the intensity of his nature, not the desire that flashes between them. Will the discovery of his identity shatter the passion they share?

Is he, or isn’t he?

Since this book was published in 1988 it’s a bit dated, but the storyline is still good. I read this a long time ago when I first discovered Linda Howard and remember liking it so when it came on sale, I bought it. What I didn’t realize is, that it is # 4 of a series. Luckily you don’t have to read the others in the series to enjoy this book. So if you are contemplating reading it, don’t worry about reading the other books first, this book can stand on it own. Narration is good.

Man with out a FACE~ early Howard suspense~ 3 STAR

PLOT: Jay is asked by the FBI to ID a badly injured man who COULD be her ex husband.

Jay is having a horrible day. She is fired from her job so her boss's flaky son could
take her job and the FBI shows up at her door. They ask her to ID her ex husband "Steve"....and they have plenty of questions but give her few "answers." "Steve" is in a coma and covered in bandages. And under guard at Bethesda Naval Hospital no less. (before DNA)....the FBI agents take Jay there where she confirmed it IS Steve.

Enter Steve......in a coma and 'drawn" to the voice at his bedside (Jay) who helps calm him
and deal the overwhelming pain. As he slowly comes out of the coma.....HIS heavily bandaged hands and face
make Jay his LIFELINE for his physical and emotional recovery.

THE FBI enable Jay to remain by his side.Jay is very drawn to the CRANKY recovering man who has NO memory. *WARNING* (spoiler here) when the bandages are finally removed from his eyes after another surgery Jay realizes the man is NOT Steve. Why was Steven involved with a secret plot and why was he killed? and who is the man she is NOW
in love with and WHY is he still under guard? this is a good early Linda Howard Romantic Suspense audiobook. Kell Sabin is loosely added to the mystery. Lesa Lockford is a good reader. NOT Howards best book but still entertaining the mystery is well done. I give it 3 STARS over all.

One of my favorites

I rarely read the same book twice. This book I have read/listened to at least 5 times. It is a great story. Linda Howard is a one of my favorites also.

Great suspense!

Two men in an explosion, only one man survives. Is it the FBI agent or Jay's ex-husband? The FBI call on her to identify the man, hoping it's her ex-husband and assuming the agent was killed in the explosion.

Jay hasn't seen or talked to her ex in 5 years and the man laying in the hospital has been badly damaged. The FBI talk her into staying with the patient since he seems to respond to her voice even though he may not end up being her ex.

I wasn't sure I was going to like this one based off the blurb but it was way more exciting than I thought it would be. I borrowed this on audible escape. The narrator did a good job with the characters and I would recommend listening to the audiobook.

Great Book terrible Narrarator

Book was excellent and very well written. Unfortunately the narrator nearly puts you to sleep. Fortunately the book is good enough to keep you listening!

An old favorite from my keeper shelf

I was so excited to find this book in audio form. It's been on my keeper shelf for years. There's not anything I can find about this book that I don't love. As far as the narration goes, I wish Jay wouldn't have been given such a breathy voice. More like the narrator's real speaking voice would be better.

Ending? What ending?

Awful ending as if the author had to wrap up the plot very quickly. Most of Howard’s books are much better.
