About this listen

White House Usher: Who Killed the President? is a mystery novel that takes place in one of the more unique settings in existence: the White House executive residence, home of the first family. Murder, romance, deceit, and a suspenseful struggle all ensue as the main character struggles to solve the case. Emery uses his in-depth knowledge of White House history and the inner workings of the private residence to create a thrilling murder mystery from an insider’s perspective.

The world is rocked by the sudden death of the president of the United States. Almost as shocking, details soon emerge implicating a member of the White House Ushers Office. The evidence seems overwhelming, and the case is soon declared as open and shut. If only the rest of the world knew how much more was going on behind the scenes.

Hear how Chief Usher Bartholomew Winston, a 50-year veteran of the White House, puts together an investigation team that works to uncover the truth, even if that means diving headfirst into some very dangerous, intricate political waters to find it.

Congratulations, Mr. Emery! Because of your detailed and vivid descriptions, I felt carried along quite intimately with all the characters in your story. I had such a great visual of the landscape of this story that only comes from a great writer who has personal knowledge of the White House & it’s operations. The storyline kept me engaged to a point where I didn’t want to step away. I loved all the twists and turns and look forward to a sequel or, perhaps, a movie!

Fun and Exciting Book!

Great narration to a fantastic story

The story is an interest murder mystery set in the most famous house in the country. My only criticism is that I felt it got a little too mired in describing the intricate workings of the white house usher's office, and the details of meal menus and accompanying wine pairings. But then, I was just listening to find out who the murderer was,

Darren Eliker does a very good job narrating the book. He reads life into the characters with nuanced accents and speech patterns. Because he gives the characters distinct voices, in the back and forth dialog sequences, you never lose track of who's saying what.

Interesting Who Dun' It

A great “cozy” mystery with intricate scene setting, historic insights, even interesting operational detail of a never seen world. And if you think you’ve figured it out early on, you’re probably wrong. Lots of fun!

A great, rich mystery.
