About this listen

In the thrilling first crime novel from former FBI director James Comey, a murder investigation reveals deadly connections between high-ranking politicians and the mafia

When a years-long case against a powerful mobster finally cracks and an unimpeachable witness takes the stand, federal prosecutor Nora Carleton is looking forward to putting the defendant away for good. The mobster, though, has other plans. As the witness's testimony concludes, a note is passed to the prosecution offering up information into the assassination of a disgraced former New York governor, murdered in his penthouse apartment just days before. It's enough to blow the case wide open, and to send Nora into a high-stakes investigation of conspiracy, corruption, and danger.

Drawing from the author's decades in federal law enforcement, including his years in Manhattan as a mob prosecutor and later the chief federal prosecutor, Central Park West is a fast-paced legal thriller with an intriguing plot enriched by real-life details and experiences. That unique perspective gives the novel much of its allure, but it's the unforgettable characters, shocking twists, and courtroom scenes as authentic as they are dramatic that will leave listeners looking forward to more from this bold new talent in the genre.

If you like courtrooms, lawyers, descriptive narrative of the state of New York investigators. The story, a murder case was pretty uninteresting.

Just ok

Well done I couldn’t put it down. The ending, however, seemed almost detached from the main storyline of the book

Compelling Read

First time author for me. I don't live somewhere that has lots of Mafie types. In fact, I've wondered from time to time why I didn't hear more about them, the bad guys, although I assumed they were around in some capacity. This book brought home that the Mafia is alive and well.

The author must have inside knowledge of crime in NYC as he communicates all of the interlocking parts of crime and how the legal system works trying to bring it all to justice.

I didn't find the book terribly exciting but it was interesting. I had an easy time sticking with it to the end.

James Comey brings modern day characters to life in this work. Enjoyed the local knowledge of Hoboken, New York, and Westport. Bravo Jim - keep these works coming; greatly enjoyed it!

Comey crushes it. Outstanding work.

I loved having a story with strong women in many of the roles. Both the heroes and the villains were strong women. Who knew the former director of the FBI was such a good writer of fiction!

Exciting story which is well written and performed

I am a big fan of the first two literary works of former Director of the FBI James B. Comey. His first two books were written brilliantly with absolutely near perfect narration .

I always prefer Non Fiction over Fiction , But I was pleasantly surprised how interesting and entertaining this work is from the female protagonists view point . Their were some very interesting twists and turns . The support characters were robust and interesting in their own uniqueness. The mentioning of the metro NYC area including local neighborhoods just added to the drama and realism .
The female voice actor also gets an A+ for a professional performance. I finished this book in a few days . Looking forward to more literary work from the author(s) . Congratulations!

Interesting and engaging View Point !

I like the book was an easy read. Very slow in spots. Hoping the second book is better.

Good first book

I liked that the story moved along and that the author gave us insight into the legal system we might not even see otherwise. I did not like the rip off of Topkapi. Ok, so their are only a few ways to pull off a heist, but it felt like an intellectually lazy theft from rather than a bow to the movie

… but sadly neither suspenseful nor easy on the ears. Narrator has excellent diction and control of shifts between character voices but starts so high that when she speaks for the little girl, glass breaks. The narrator really made it very hard for me to get into the book. It was so distracting for a first fiction Mr. Comey did himself proud.

Clever & Well-Intentioned …
