About this listen

In a world ruled by vamps, being half fae and magicless sucks. You know what’s even worse? Being sold into slavery by your own mother.

I am Onyx Logan, and my mother condemned me when she sent me to Nocturnal Academy. If I get lucky, the academy will mold me into a servant for rich vampires. If I’m not, I’ll become a courtesan.

But if the vamps think I’ll take this lying down like a good little bitch, they’re wrong. I don’t have the means to escape Nocturnal Academy, but I have my eyes set on someone who does.

Prince Preston Kallan, a handsome, pureblood fae teacher from the Summer Court, doesn’t know who I am yet, but he will soon. At least, that was the plan. Because, as it turns out, nothing goes the way I expect.

Wicked Nobles is the prequel to the Nocturnal Academy trilogy. Immerse yourself into a world filled with magic, danger, and romance.

Unique take on vampires & Fae

This is the first book in the Nocturnal Academy series. It is a good introduction to this interesting new world where vampires rule and fae are educated to serve them.

Narration was good and brought the story to life.

Here you will find action, suspense, drama, mystery, danger, betrayal, and unexpected twists and turns. It is really terrible that Onyx own mother sold her out to the vamps.

The story progress at a good pace and the world building is well done. I was pretty shocked with some of the twists I never saw coming. This book is surprisingly light on romance. I’m looking forward to seeing what will happen next.

High Praise for an Amazing Story

I absolutely loved this story. The narrator was spot on. I had been itching to read another vampire novel. Added bonus was I got the fae as well. The main character in this novel exudes the confidence and determination I love in a strong female lead. Get ready to stay up all night once you start this book.

Edgy fantasy meets bad reader

Spoiler free: I really wanted to like this audiobook but I just do not like the reader’s voice (sorry Joan!). She sounds as if she is trying to compensate for being far older than the MC by speaking very nasally and it is not appreciated by this reader. It make it difficult to enjoy the story. The story itself is interesting if a bit traumatic. Basically the MC is sold into slavery by her mother and that slavery includes being trained to be a courtesan. It is a bit abrasive but given the blurb, you’ll know whether you would be interested in this type of story or not. This is a novella length prequel to a series which I haven’t read but I think will be really good based on this novella (in spite of the reader’s voice). Definitely check out the sample before ordering.
Things I really liked: 1) fae!!!! I love fae fantasy so I was 100% on board. 2) That there was this new take on vampires that played up the aspects of their traditional sensuality making it into this perverse and dark power dynamic between fae and vampires. They are aggressively sexual (BUT BE ADVISED THIS COULD TRIGGER YOU! This is your #metoo trigger warning: sexual aggression!!!) 3) I love the relationships between characters. They are maybe a bit quickly sketched in this one with how short it is but it’s really interesting how our MC interacts with those around her.
Things I didn’t like: 1) the audiobook reader’s voice 2) some of the characters felt really stereotypical in a bad way and they could have had a bit more depth—just something to make them seem a bit more real and individual. 3) some of the storyline was hard to bear because it is just such a misogynistic world. The misogyny and power inequalities were so completely overt that I actually would have liked a bit more subtlety. It was hard to swallow.

unique take

I like how this gives you a new take on the vampires and fae. It felt like the story when to fast. I wish told a little more on her learning more about this new life she is now part of.

But to know that Onyx's mother sold her to vamps for money. With the Knowledge she has about what would happen to Onyx is so sad. Then she just wants to get herself out of a life that is so terrible. She is willing to trust someone she doesn't every know.
