About this listen

Being possessed has its advantages...

Sure, my soul-bound familiar could be a pain in the ass, but she came with some pretty impressive abilities. A nasty voodoo demigod, a loa of destruction, wants to steal her power.

Ogoun, the loa of war, has invited me to join the Voodoo Academy. If I master the arts, he tells me that I might have a chance to thwart the demigod's scheme. But can any of these "gods" be trusted? They all have ulterior motives. And I won't be a pawn in their war. But if I don't stop him, if he steals these powers...he could destroy the world.

I'm an outsider. Not at all like the other students at the academy. I don't think they'll ever accept me. But if I don't go, if I don't learn to control these abilities, it will mean the end of everything I hold dear.

Great voodoo-themed series!

While I have read/listened to a lot of fantasy, this was my first time in a voodoo-themed universe so I was a bit unsure about it being a good choice of book for me. But it ended up being a great choice! I loved the universe and the worldbuilding was definitely amazing: we get to see so much of so many different places! (trying not to give spoilers here...). The characters had nice and believable back stories and proper development. The plot had soooo many twists and turns that I never expected! Overall, the story was amazing!

The narrator is also pretty good. Not sure if she naturally has a teenage-y voice or not, but she definitely blew life into the main character. Also brownie points for giving individual voices to the other characters AND for using different tones/inflections throughout the narration. Oh, and for proper French pronunciation!

My only complaint is that the audio wasn't perfect. I admit I am very picky and this is the main reason why I pass on many audiobooks. This book in particular had a tiny bit of white noise in the background. It would have been perfect if it didn't. I don't expect this to be a problem for most other people, but I have a very sensitive hearing and really good audio devices.

Awesome Series

This was a great series. Loved storylines. Lots of humor and action and each one got better and better. The characters are quite colorful and the narrator does a good job bringing them to life. Each one has their own flavor by the narrator and makes listening enjoyable. The world building is done right by author and the narrator has done a good job expressing that also. I received a promo code for this audiobook and this is my honest review.

Action filled coming of age story

Incredible story. Has a few slow moments but every book ends with a nice cliffhanger. You can really follow along as MC grows and comes into her final role.

A soul-bonded power house

I love the interwoven series by Theophilus Monroe. In Voodoo Academy, we get to ride along with Annabell and her soul-bonded Isabell as they attend the Voodoo Academy on a journey to becoming the Queen of Voodoo. Prepare for a wild and twisted ride.

A great series

I loved the storyline and the world building throughout the audiobook series. Each book was great the references used throughout the series and the snarkiness of Annabel . The different characters was just awesome. The narration was okay. I would have liked if a bit more feeling or maybe tone for each character. Other than that I enjoyed this series immensely.

Loved the book, not the narrator

Loved the story, but the narrator was difficult to listen to. There were a lot of mispronounced words, strange background sounds occasionally, and very little vocal distinction between characters.

Fan-flipping-tastic!!

I received a free copy of Voodoo Academy Complete Series audiobook and this is my honest review.

I have noticed books by Theophilus Monroe and thought they looked interesting but this was my first encounter with his writing. After reading about his history in theology I wasn't really sure what to expect in a story about voodoo, but I was definitely not disappointed. I am a Christian and I don't know much about Voodoo or Shamanism but I thought every culture represented was done so with respect. Except perhaps the chimeras.

I loved the entire series! It was great! Annabelle and Isabelle were an awesome pair, even with their differences. All of the supporting characters were wonderful. Pauli was absolutely fabulous!! Loved him to pieces! Ogoun was great as a possible love interest, but he sure cut the timing close!

The entire series was narrated by Sydney Fry. She was a great fit for the character of Annabelle, but hearing all of the characters sound like a young girl was a little much. I would have liked some variation in voices. Also, there were several words mispronounced. That seems like an editing responsibility to me, but I have no clue how that works.

To Mr Monroe & Ms Fry, thank you for a thoroughly enjoyable series and I'm on a mission to listen to more of the Gates of Eden stories.

Possession brings an intriguing adventure

Received as an audio review copy from Story Origin, this is and honest review. Narrated by Sydney Fry, she was okay for the story but for me didn't make the story immersive as it should have been. Despite not on board with the narrator, the story didn't lose then snarky beauty of this urban fantasy/ mystery written by Theophilus Monroe. Annabelle is a wickedly brilliant character whose life gets thrown to hell once she's possessed by by the spirits of a girl dead for 200 years; mastering the "unique" gifts that have come from the girl means attending an academy with its eccentric students is just the beginning of a wild journey that will Annabelle in every e at possible. Highly recommended.

Loved the series

This series is about Annabelle and her companion Isabelle whose soul is fused to her. Annabelle is a very tough but unsure of herself and is still learning with Isabell. She and Isabelle eventually come to terms with each other and in doing so become so much stronger. This is an action packed suspenseful series that you just can’t help but to root for Annabelle and Isabelle. I didn’t know a whole lot about voodoo but this box set is well written and very detailed which helped. My one negative is thatI was not in love with the narrator. But in the end she grew on me. Loved the series
