About this listen

Six-million acres of Adirondack forest separate Natalie and Doug Larson from civilization. For the newlyweds, the isolated backcountry honeymoon seemed ideal for starting their lives together, but as they begin to explore the dark interiors of their own hearts, it soon becomes clear that they are not alone in the woods.

A man watches them, wielding the forest like a weapon. He wants something from them that's more terrifying than death. And once they are near him, he will do everything in his power to make sure they never walk out again.

Great story

the author's voice was good and the story was great. I wasn't sure how any of it would turn out and it kept me guessing.

if natalie had gotten goosebumps one more time. ..

was good but endless and the endless use of names. good plot. just dizzy-ing and vague in some parts, and overly adjective-d in others.

SHOULD BE A MOVIE!!!!!!!!

This is in my top 3 for the year. A totally original story, a wild ride and crazy characters, excellent thriller. If I didn’t have to go to work, I would have listened to it straight through. I almost didn’t get this book because it had one really bad review, but I’m glad I did. I listen to average 3 books a week so it says a lot when one comes along and makes me hold my breath, cringe and laugh in the next moment. I think this book will go on to be a best seller. 6 ⭐️

Great Writer

I've read all Jenny Milchman books and they're all good. My favorite was her first one. This was very good with lots of action, excitement and trying to guess what's going on. I felt it was a tad bit drawn out but not much. It's a great read and I'll read her next one when it comes out . JC

Good but could have been better

Pretty good writing and good narration but several things kinda bugged me. Close to half the book was setting things up and (maybe slight spoilers) the mystery leading up to her questioning her husbands acting weird and suspicious ended up being a big flop in my mind! I was expecting something more sinister or more depth to that part and it was kinda dumb. That and the fact that the “bad guy didn’t really have a lot to do with them finding themselves in peril till over halfway through the book. That and a bunch of small things like the fact that they could half easily bonked the guy in the head at some point verses plan to just run away and make their way through the woods with him chasing them or the fact that a young girl would just up and sneak out and make her way into the deep woods alone to look for them seemed silly! Oh and why would the rescue guys split up and go trampling around after she told them the woods were booby trapped and there was a killer roaming around instead of calling the police in asap? Just several things like that but it was otherwise a decent read and even tho I was disappointed at some points about the story it was pretty intense wondering what was going on the first half with her husband and his friends. So overall it was better than a lot of quick and easy reads I’ve run across on audible but not what I would call great.

Irritating, hyper-genderized characters

I'm not usually the kind of person who has a problem with a hyper-masculine or hyper-feminine character so bear that in mind for this review. I don't care about those things for the most part...but it was so irritating in this book that I couldn't finish the story. The story itself seemed fine--nothing special but I do love me a thriller taking place in the wilderness--but the author's voices for the characters kind of ruined it. The men had super deep, emotionless voices and the women had high-pitched, sycophantic and vapid voices that sounded like they'd be at home in a show from the 1950s. I guess if the story had been top-notch I would have continued to listen but since it wasn't and I just found myself getting angrier and angrier at having to listen to the stupid characters, I decided to stop the book halfway. Bummer.

I’m On like chapter 15 and just can’t keep going!

Worst I’ve listened to in months! Totally returning it. I kept telling myself it would pick up. Wouldn’t keep it in my library if it was free.
