About this listen

From the bestselling authors of The Good Widow comes a chilling novel of psychological suspense that will make you think twice about what your best friend may be hiding…

For estranged friends Ashley, Natalie, and Lauren, it’s time to heal the old wounds between them. Where better to repair those severed ties than on a girls’ getaway to the beautiful paradise of Tulum, Mexico? But even after they’re reunited, no one is being completely honest about the past or the secrets they’re hiding. When Ashley disappears on their girls’ night out, Natalie and Lauren have to try to piece together their hazy memories to figure out what could have happened to her, while also reconciling their feelings of guilt over their last moments together.

Was Ashley with the man she’d met only days before? Did she pack up and leave? Was she kidnapped? Or worse - could Natalie or Lauren have snapped under the weight of her own lies?

As the clock ticks, hour by hour, Natalie and Lauren’s search rushes headlong into growing suspicion and dread. Maybe their secrets run deeper and more dangerous than one of them is willing - or too afraid - to admit.

Solid Psychological Suspense novel

This was a solid 3.5 stars for me. The narrator did a good job, although she didn't really differentiate between any of the three narrators. The story itself was nothing groundbreaking, multiple POVs, small jumps in time, the mystery unraveling right up until the final chapter. There was a definite twist at the very end, and I didn't see it coming, but it wasn't a jaw-dropping twist. I would say my biggest issue with the book was that I really didn't like any of the main characters. Overall, glad I listened, would recommend it for a quick psychological suspense listen, but don't think I'll ever need to listen or read it again.

Will keep you guessing all the way to the end!

This story does an amazing job of illustrating the evolution of long-term friendship. The struggles of the main characters are identifiable if you have friendships that have spanned many decades... and the mystery will keep you guessing until the last chapter. Great listen! Worth your time!

Great Reader, Dragged author intended suspense

For me I really like this reader and her voice portrayed much emotion in the different characters.
However,
The story line for me was slow, and the back and forth of the novel from different time stamps left a bit to be desired. The book would go from the Day of - to the day after - to two days before and back again, all over the place. Because of this I found myself not always listening then realizing I missed some of the story causing me to rewind. Then some of it would drag on and i felt myself thinking and feeling as if it really dragged on and on. I believe the authors intent was to create a sense of building up to the 'what happened' and 'how did it happen' but overall it was more frustrating the suspenseful. There was some parts where the author didn't quite lead up to why the character was having a thought or I should say really express fully what that thought was which left me wondering what was that all about.

In the end I did give this book a 4 star rating and mostly that is because I like the reader and did like the story for the most part. Book could of been shortened and the same story would of been told. But if you are into a suspenseful story this does not quite hit the mark. Its more of a lingering question that you are hoping would just come out so you can move onto your next audible book in your hit list!

Could have been so good

Well what a let down ending I am sad I wasted my time on this. Also, the key struggle between 2 characters is so unbelievable it takes 1/2 the book to come out and I kept going back to reread like “wait, what”? Most irritating is the narrator she plays multiple characters very well, shifting very well by subtly modulating her voice but the lead character voice is terrible and fake and she is the lead so there is that. Sorry to be so negative but it is so well written and great suspense I’m bummed these glaring flaws ruined it.

hard look at friendship gone wrong

I liked The Good Widow way better. This was definitely more of a chick lit than mystery. That being said I did listen to it all.

Quick read with meaty relationships

We love to hate the ones we love. Take a lesson from this relatable friend group who is trying to walk the love/hate line.

Friends?

These women are awful and self centered. Hard to believe they ever cared about each other.

Excellent.

As much women's fiction as it was mystery-suspense. Great character development. Good pacing. Recommended highly.
