About this listen

No rest for the wicked...or for those who investigate them

Sinister forces lurk in the corners of the Iron Kingdoms - restless souls, mischievous and cunning creatures, darker beings that bargain for mortal souls. Most pass unmarked, shunned, or avoided, but there is one group willing to seek out and study what others fear.

In abandoned halls and forgotten ruins, the investigators from the Strangelight Workshop illuminate the darkness, armed with wisdom, curiosity, and specialized tools. The Workshop employs an odd blend of scientists, mercenaries, and occult explorers who seek to understand the unfathomable, to peel back the veil between life and death to commune with spirits haunting places beset by tragedy and madness. But now one team is about to step off the precipice when they learn of a malevolent plot to unravel all they have done and to harvest the souls of all humanity.

Something cruel awaits them. Something vile. Something wicked.

Performed by Scott McCormick, Duyen Washington, Michael John Casey, Robbie Gay, Zeke Alton, Amanda Forstrom, Harley Gordon, Jessica Lauren Ball, Lawrence Redmond, Jonathon Church, Richard Rohan, Steve Wannall, Dylan Lynch, Eric Messner, Andy Brownstein, Nanette Savard, Bradley Smith, Joe Mallon, Matthew Bassett, Yasmin Tuazon, Tia Shearer, Peter Holdway, Colleen Delany, Carolyn Kashner, James Lewis, Mort Shelby, Rose Elizabeth Supan, David Jourdan, Alejandro Ruiz, Terence Aselford.

If you like Iron Kingdoms or Warmahordes this is stellar!

Graphic audio enhanced these stories a great deal but regardless any iron kingdoms fan should lap this up!

Really fun story, great performances

I really liked this one. IK Ghostbusters/supernatural horror. it requires perhaps a little investment in the setting to appreciate, since many concepts and backgrounds are assumed familiar, and it is essentially a prelude to the release of the Grymkin faction in the game.

It is also a story that stands enjoyable enough through likable characters and tense atmosphere. It brought the events to life in a way that made some arguably questionable events in the larger story feel more grounded and grave.

Great stories. Found the narrator's voice annoying

The short stories here are all really great. The voice acting and performances are really well done but the narrator's voice is off putting for me.

Highly entertaining romp through the Iron Kingdoms

Suspense, horror, supernatural forces, detective work, and camaraderie converge in an excellent anthology. The stories weave together an overarching narrative while tying in or alluding to other important novels, factions, events, and characters in the Iron Kingdoms. Thoroughly enjoyable, well written and well performed.

Outstanding! (Ghostbusters + Steam Punk)

This is a series of short stories that take place in the Iron Kingdoms. This Graphic Audio book was excellently done. If you enjoy Ghostbusters and Steam Punk you must listen to this!

an anthology of short, creepy stories

this collection of short stories takes place in the Iron Kingdoms, a steam-powered world created by the masterful world builders at Privateer Press.
I think anyone could listen to this and enjoy it, but it will be most enjoyable for listeners already familiar with the Iron Kingdoms.
all five (six really, since the prologue and epilogue are both part of their own story) stories are pretty short and follow characters from the Strangelight Workshop... think Steampunk Ghost Busters/paranormal investigators. each story is a different case they're investigating, and the paranormal phenomenon in each story ranges from plain ol' ghosts, to Grymkin (the Iron Kingdoms equivalent to old school, monstrous fey), to Infernals (the Iron Kingdoms equivalent of extraplanar devils).

the narrator's voice was a little hard to understand sometimes on the original Graphic Audio production of this book, but here on the Audible version they must have adjusted the audio mixing or something. it all seems more polished.

bottom line, if you enjoy creepy fantasy stories with an industrial revolution flair, you'll like this book.
