About this listen

Final exam question #1: Is an independent woman destined to remain single forever, or can a wife training course turn a mess into a Mrs.? Thriving Atlanta mogul, Amber Ross, thinks she is the perfect woman. But when she finds out that her recent ex-boyfriend is marrying someone else, she begins to question what men really want. Frustrated with the dating scene and her failing interactions with men, Amber enrolls in a course at her church geared towards teaching women how to be effective in their relationships: Wife 101. Amber expects the class to shed some light on her courting flaws, but it does more than that - it challenges many of her life choices and ideas about romance. Her new attitude brings unexpected love, but has she learned enough to make the right choices and snag a great husband, or, like a foolish woman, will she tear down her home with her own hands?

Solid Christian Chick Lit.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, especially a female friend. This book details the struggles a black, professional Christian woman has in dating and getting married. This is a universal theme for all Christian women. The author does a great job of engaging the reader. Amber is a very likeable protagonist. She is independant, successful, confident but with the same insecurities we all have. The characters are well-written and the scenes authentically capture real-life (at least real middle-class Atlanta life). Not many of us have three interested suitors as once, but this author makes it incredibly believable and funny.

This book presents an original interpretation of Proverbs 31. While I am not sure it is completely biblically sound, the author makes it very relevant to today. It is encouraging and helpful to today's women trying to balance work and family life.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Gold is my favorite character. He is flamboyant, cocky, and ambitious. He is also wealthy and clear in his intentions. His ego is entertaining.

What about Machelle Williams’s performance did you like?

This is my first Machelle Williams experience. She is a great narrator and does a very good job. She captures the spirit of each character and gives each of them a unique voice. Her voice is clear and she ennunciates well. She performs both the male and female characters well.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book has many funny moments. The scene where Ambers mother picks up the phone during a booty call is hilarious. The scene where Amber is using Eric as a fake boyfriend for a business event with Gold is also priceless. Also, all the problems stemming from trying to date three men secretly and simultaneously is pretty funny.

Any additional comments?

This is a very clean book. I received this book for free from the author, narrator, or publisher in exchange for an honest review.
