About this listen

Eloisa James returns to the Wildes of Lindow Castle series with the next Wilde child who runs and joins a theatre troupe - and the duke who tries to save her reputation.

He wants a prim and proper duchess, not the Wildest of the Wildes!

Already notorious for the golden hair that proves her mother’s infidelity, Lady Joan can’t seem to avoid scandals, but her latest escapade may finally ruin her: she’s determined to perform the title role of a prince - in breeches, naturally.

She has the perfect model for an aristocratic male in mind: Thaddeus Erskine Shaw, Viscount Greywick, a man who scorned the very idea of marrying her.

Not that Joan would want such a dubious honor, of course.

For years, Thaddeus has avoided the one Wilde who shakes his composure, but he’s horrified when he grasps the danger Joan’s putting herself in. Staring into her defiant eyes, he makes the grim vow that he’ll keep her safe.

He strikes a bargain: after one performance, the lady must return to her father’s castle and marry one of three gentlemen whom he deems acceptable.

Not including him, of course.

The Shakespeare plays, descriptions of the animals in the story.

Aunt Kno is my favorite! Quick witted and ready to deal with any situation. Excellent sense of humor.

Original

This is a fairly decent audible. From my perspective the narrator is brings the story down. Maybe it would have been better with a male voice. Also dialogue was frequently whiny and brooding. I’d give it a solid B to B+. Ok to spend a credit on but won’t be a favorite.

Joyful, funny, Joan is a pleasure

Eloisa James’s other self, Mary Bly, enriched this pleasurable book by intertwining within the story insights into Shakespeare’s Hamlet. It must be 60 years since I last read the play. I have a greater appreciation of Ophelia and a lower opinion of Hamlet now.

Excellent story telling, funny & sexy

I love strong female heroines who are a bit quirky. The author was able to immerse me in her story. All the characters came alive Exec for the too arch evil father at the end. They scenes were HOT. Also, this was the first time in any romance novel I’ve read where they admitted sex us messy, sweaty, etc. Usually the couple finishes and gets dressed without any leaky issues. All in all a throughly enjoyable listen.

Good final book in the series

Lady Joan Wilde has endured a lifetime of living down being the daughter of the second Duchess of Wilde and her Prussian lover.
Lord Thaddeus Erskine Shaw, Viscount Greywick has spent his life trying to be the best, most honorable person and future Duke.
They really aren’t the right match at all…but they are.
Duerden has done a very decent job on this book, and the series overall.

Another fabulous Wilde!

The Wildes of Lindow Castle series has produced another hit. As a fan of Eloisa James and this series in particular I was hopeful that this next book in the series would be just as good as the others and I was not disappointed. This is the story of Joan, the illegitimate child of the second Duchess and her lover, and Thaddeus, future Duke of Eversley. I adore Joan’s sense of humor and her unapologetic love for theater and the dramatic. Thaddeus is a character that we have seen throughout the series who finally gets to tell his story and find his HEA with Wilde after all. Susan Duerden is brilliant and brings such heart and incredible talent to this audio production. They way she totally differentiates between so many characters is amazing and makes this a 5 star listen for me. Totally worth a credit for lovers of historical romance.

Henry Cavill as Greywick

Enjoyed this a lot -- hot sex and almost slapstick humor. What's not to like? Following the Wilde family through all their romantic encounters with Eloisa James has been (will be more?) fun. Her stories are rich with detail, so well written and just plain fun that I always enjoy the start of a new series. With all the Wilde's, except the baby, married off, this series may be ending, but maybe not. We can only hope.
