Wilderness

This was an excellent horror story. Something happens and people are turned into 'Leeches' or 'Woolies',if they don't escape and stay human. A pocket of survivors are hold up in a school. The Leeches come out at night, they drink blood. The Woolies eat people. One among the group of survivors is not as nice as he seems to be. Narration by Kerr Lordygan was really good. His voices were terrific. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Survival of the Fittest

Wilderness is a book that tells the story of survival against creatures that hunted at night. I liked this book and its ragtag group of characters and all their quirks and underhanded thoughts and dealings. If you love books about survival and the living dead this book is for you. This is my honest unbiased review that I am voluntarily leaving of my own volition. I received a free copy of this book at my own request.

Fantastic read

Fantastic read.
The author spends the majority of the storyline developing the characters and plot for this series. There is just enough romance and malice to add depth without leaving the YA genre.
The narrator did well. Struggled a bit with female characters but his reading of the story more than makes up for it and you soon settle into his storytelling.
This is definitely a series opener, and I am looking forward to book 2,

Bad moon rising

I totally loved this book… and the references of the song bad moon rising…

Troy … he seems like the hero of the book and things happens… I like him and hope he doesn’t fall …
Nicholas… the clever one…. He seems to figure out things and saves the day I hope…
Alex… oh boy… there is always one that makes your hair rises and send chills down your neck…he is wrapped in mystery and something dark….. the way he talks is a dead giveaway…

I just loved it and can’t wait to listen to book2

Entertaining and Unique Characters

This young adult horror novel was an entertaining listen. There are the YA staples, love triangle, betrayal, specific personality types, etc. which are fine and expected. However, the author broke out of these standards a bit with some more unique mindsets and personalities than your everyday YA. As a standalone novel, it's a bit slow to the true conflict of the plot. But as a beginning book in a trilogy, it is understandable. Taking the time to flesh out the wide cast of characters and deliver an exciting end to be continued in the next book in the series. As a side note, I enjoyed that they call the vampires leeches and the werewolves woolies.

Kerr Lordygan's narration of this tale was done well. He did great with his overall pacing and conveyed each scene's emotions well. The only real shortcoming was his work with female voices. Understandably this can be a tough talent to hone with such a natural masculine voice.

Editing, quality, and production were on par with most books I have listened to. It was clear, no issue with sound or quality.

Leeches and Woolies in Dystopia

I am a longtime reader of vampire books, so I am always looking for something different. In this book, we are introduced to leeches and woolies (I love those names!!). Something has caused ordinary people to turn into werewolves and vampires and very few have survived the plague. A ragtag group of teenagers are just trying to survive by holing up in a school and taking turns patrolling each night in order to kill any leeches or woolies they encounter.

This is a short book, but the author has done a great job of introducing the characters and giving the reader plenty to think about. The cast is made up of a traumatized young child, a hero, a psychopath, a dreamer and a young couple falling in love. The descriptions of the encounters with the leeches is especially chilling and the group soon begins to wonder if it is possible to survive.

The narrator does a great job and adds to the tension in the story with his great performance. It does end on a definite cliffhanger, but that is expected since it is labeled as Book 1 of a trilogy. I look forward to following the further trials of this group in the next book!
