Publisher's summary

It wasn't a thing, it was a bit of shaped sky.

Somewhere in a place so far up that there is no down, a ship is waiting to take the nomes home, back to wherever they came from. And one nome, Masklin, knows that they've got to try and contact the ship.

It means going to Florida (wherever that is), then getting to the launch of a communications satellite (whatever that is). A ridiculous plan. Impossible. But Masklin doesn't know this, so he tries to do it anyway. And the first step is to try and hitch a ride on a new kind of truck, a truck with wings.

This is the third book in the Bromeliad Trilogy.

Please note: This is a vintage recording. The audio quality may not be up to modern day standards.

Critic reviews

"The conversational style and fast-moving plot make this cheerful, unpretentious tale useful where there is a need for accessible science fiction, or where the previous volumes have been enjoyed." ( School Library Journal)

A delight

Terry is my favorite author whether it’s adult books or “YA” titles. And Stephen Briggs cannot be beat as a narrator.

simple and fun

True to Terry Pratchett's normal style, this book is full of tounge in cheek humor with subtle points interwoven into a fantasy world. A lighthearted and fun story, it is just what some of us need to take us away from a world full of illness and turmoil.

Story is Rendered beautifully.

Been reading Terry Pratchett books for decades. Stephen Briggs perfectly captures the voices of the characters I had been imagining all these years.

Wonderful but Technical Difficulties

Stephen Briggs is amazing as usual along with Terry Pratchett’s usual wonder, but the recording is scratchy in some places and it only slightly dampens the quality, which is highly unusual because that’s never happened before.

Giant fun in a relatively small package!

A laugh out loud adventure with a little something for everyone. It is both a story of a race of little creatures trying to find their home in a world with boundaries that won't stop growing as well as a mirror in which we can laugh at our own efforts to define our home in a space which abhors restraint more than a vacuum. This is possible because no matter what language in which it is read, it was written in the universal language of story in which Sir Terry Pratchett is a master.

Ok, but not brilliant

While I loved the setting for this installment, I am still disconcerted by Stephen Briggs' performance. Again, no variation of his performance from his Discworld performances, so you will hear Granny Weatherwax or Nanny Ogg from the lips of other characters.
