Publisher's summary

Want to dive into a world full of werewolves, magic, and witches?

"Something about his eyes changed. For a moment, his eyes dilated to an unnatural size. The color transformed to an insane shade of gold. The feeling of being prey took over her for one terrifying minute. But, something crept forward from the dark recesses of her mind. Whatever the darkness was, it was ugly, and it didn’t like to be challenged."

Louvette Blackwood never even knew her own father's name until a lawyer shows up on her door step to execute her grandfather's will. She soon finds out that her grandfather was murdered while searching for her father. At first, they are hesitant to sign the will, but quickly realize that a fresh start in Montana is what they need after she was kicked out of yet another school for fighting. A life changing year packed full of uncovering the truth, new friends, and new enemies is about to start!

Excerpt:

The impact of the sucker punch sent Louvette to the ground hard. Pain flared across her cheek as it split. The effects of her adrenaline paused as her mother’s words of warning replayed in her mind: Make this school last until graduation. She knew this would break her mother’s heart.

A shout that did not come from her mother took her back to present reality. She hadn’t started this fight, but she knew she wasn’t going to let her butt get stomped, either.

She jumped up. Her fist balled as a blonde pixie of a girl came at her. Louvette dodged her this time and swung her fist straight into the girl’s nose. A solid crunch sounded as her attack landed. Her momentary satisfaction was thrown off along with her balance as the girl fell to the ground.

A large arm separated them as the coach finally arrived to do his job. They continued to kick at each other, looking like barrel monkeys hanging off a barrel.

“Break it up! Lynskey and Mallory report to the principal’s office immediately,” snapped Coach No Clue.

wow

I quite enjoyed this book, I will actually spend audible credits to buy the next books ( 2) to hear more of the story. This is a book of live and mystery. How did things go, where is her dad, is she a shifter since most shifters are boys? the questions are all around....maybe you know the answers if you listen to the book!

Interesting

I listened to the audio format and I really enjoyed the narrator and how she brought it to life. That being said, this book definitely needs a bit of a polish to make it better. I definitely has the makings of a good one, but needs a bit of a tightening up on grammar, characters, and so on. I will continue the series because I am curious, but it is on the back burner for the moment. (Rating is for potential and for the narrator.)

Mysterious YA Paranormal Fantasy

This was my first experience with Lou Grimes' work, and I found the story entertaining. Louvette Blackwood inherited her grandfather's estate in Montana. While in Montana, Louvette didn't accept the explanation surrounding her grandfather's death, and so she set out to discover the truth about it. On her path of discovery, Louvette learned some unexpected truths about her family and herself. Once the audiobook started, I was captivated by the story and had to listen until the end. The characters were complex and engaging. I liked the unexpected twists. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Megan Huggins' narration was great, and her performance enhanced the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Best Doggo Around

The story is a little slow at the start, but once it picks up, it goes. I was impressed with the change and it didn't plateau once. It is hard to stop reading or listening to when you get going, and it keeps things interesting. The lore behind everything was wonderful, the mystery kept getting deeper, and the moment you think you found the answer, it takes a left turn through the woods and off to a grandmother's house you didn't realize you knew. The abilities and talents of the characters are not obvious immediately, and a deeper mystery is there, but it builds up just like the tension.

good book

Wolf shifter fantasy isn't my thing, but I really liked this once I got into it. The mystery of Louvette's family really drew me in, and I'm excited to continue the series.

It ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, but the main mysteries of book 1 have all been solved, so it's really just introducing what I believe will be the main mystery of book 2.

Interesting PNR story!!

I really enjoyed this audio book about a teenage girl coming of age as she discovered she was a unique shifter. Even though she was raised by a single mother, it appears the mother didn’t know the child’s father was a shifter. For the most part I enjoyed the loving relationship between the mother and daughter and though in American culture it is normal for teenagers to rebel as they search for their own identity, it isn’t the norm in all cultures and I would have liked more open conversation about the discoveries the girl was experiencing in the story. I also enjoyed the positive supportive conversations between the FMC & MMC. The narration was well voiced for the most part though there were some sections where the narration was done in a monotone. I would have liked a little more inflection throughout, though the story still held my interest

Paranormal mystery

This was a different kind of story, poor to rich family dynamics and some romance. It ends with many things unresolved. I'm not really sure where the story is heading. If you like teen paranormal romance you might like this.

Good story

The story is good, but this is more of a young adult sort of shifter book. I think I personally would enjoy it more if the main characters were adults.

Hooked me in on First Page

I enjoyed this book. The mystery of the death of her grandfather, finding out that she is a werewolf, and falling in love. This book I didn't want to put down. I look forward to reading more from this author.

I received this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
