About this listen

The country is in turmoil. With the capital city occupied, half a million refugees are on the march, looking for safety on the frontier, accompanied by Lady Flint's soldiers. But escaping war is never easy, and soon the battle may find them, whether they are prepared or not.

Back in the capital, Michel Bravis smuggles even more refugees out of the city. But internal forces are working against him. With enemies on all sides, Michel may be forced to find help with the very occupiers he's trying to undermine.

Meanwhile, Ben Styke is building his own army. He and his mad lancers are gathering every able body they can find and searching for an ancient artifact that may have the power to turn the tides of war in their favor. But what they find may not be what they're looking for.

Another Great Entry in the Powder Mage Series

Another wonderful entry in this series. The original Powder Mage trilogy was great, and this one continues to be even better. Looking forward to the final book!

how do these keep getting better?

These books quickly became my favorite recent series in memory. The author is a master of character arcs and story paths. if you liked the other powdermage novels you'll love this one.

The narrator is perfect ad usual for this series.

a fun read, missing the stakes...

overall this is a fantastic story. it just doesn't seem to have the same kind of steaks that the prior powder Mage novels had. I'd recommend it to anyone but I still love The Originals more and I feel like I cared more about the characters.

Doesn't lose steam despite being the 5th book in.

This series keeps getting better and better.

This book felt like being in a intimate relationship with all of these well developed characters that I've been following now for 100 hours now of reading across 5 books.

I am absolutely amazed on the incredible writing making it so easy to follow along and get attached to the main character.

This book was drama.
Oozing with drama.
I was on the edge of my seat constantly wanting to see how the plot was going to develop.
For a long book, the pacing was incredibly good too. I really liked the multiple plots going on and several plots starting and ending and being added to at just the right time to keep stuff interesting.

Lots of twists and turns this time too that I really appreciated the build up to.

The ending was incredible. Major cliffhanger ending but I feel like the book did such a good job with wrapping up story lines in a good place that it was super fulfilling. I wasn't bummed at all with the cliffhanger and was more inspired to pick up the next book to see where else this goes.

Definitely recommend this book.
It doesn't lose steam despite being the 5th book in. Honestly feels like it's getting even steamiet and intriguing.

Wrath of Empire better than Sins!

I enjoyed the second book of the Gods of Blood and Powder series even more than I enjoyed the first! I highly recommend the series.

The narrator made everyone sound like a 50+ year old smoker but after a while they all seemed to fit.

Fantastic series

I have enjoyed everything I've read from this author, I can't wait until the next book. I feel like it'd have to be the finale for this arc.

Great Middle Book

Too often second books in trilogies fall flat. They generally don’t make a lot of progress in the story or in character development. This book was not that way.

There was amazing progression in both the story and character development. All individual story arch’s felt complete while still being part of a larger arch.

This is a very under rated series and I can’t wait to listen to the next one!

Love this series...and powder mages...and mad lancers...

Beginning with the first trilogy’s first book, Mr McClellan had his hooks in. Now, two books into the second trilogy, & having read all of the novellas, too, I find myself anxiously awaiting December’s release of Blood of Empire.
These characters are just fabulous, as is the world they inhabit. Props must be given to the narrative chops of Christian Rodska, as well. He is superb, & with such a large cast of characters, diversity of voice must’ve been difficult. He is worthy of much praise for his efforts.

Cheers~
