Great book but it was like listening to an action movie trailer voice the entire way through. At times the voice was so full of vocal fry and low, I could barely make out words clearly, relying instead on sentence context (especially if listening in the car). Rarely do I adamantly dislike a voice, even it isn’t my cup of tea among hundreds of audiobooks. But this was downright painful to get through. It may have been a cute thought in the beginning that this is a horror genre focused book to do a deep, dark voice, but that’s only good for a gimmick, not the entire way through for hours on end.

Voice is annoying!!

I am an amateur writer and have been wanting to try my hand at horror for a while. I enjoyed this narration and the information provided. The content contains some perspective, encouragement, details that are useful. Listening makes me feel like I can take my next step and start to learn how to plan and create a manuscript.

I am glad I bought this.

It's not exhaustive but it taught me a couple things that I'll be able to use in my projects.

Short but contains some useful observations

Quite a bit of information, though I need to listen to it a few more times. Good rules of thumb and advice about pacing and what audiences expect of horror.

Insightful

The narrator drew me into the material. After I heard the sample I felt it wasn't like your ordinary book on how to write. I am going to re-listen to this audiobook for a long time.

inspiring

This was great for a writer such as myself. It helped identify tone, pacing and other writing tools for horror and writing in general.

good chunks of info and inspiration

Like most "how to write" books, this one is useless for it's stated purpose, but it is an alright, albeit thin, genre critique and analysis.

Useless
