Diana Gabaldon
About this listen
In her now classic novel Outlander, Diana Gabaldon told the story of Claire Randall, an English ex-combat nurse who walks through a stone circle in the Scottish Highlands in 1946, and disappears… into 1743. The story unfolded from there in seven best-selling novels, and CNN has called it "a grand adventure written on a canvas that probes the heart, weighs the soul and measures the human spirit across [centuries]." Now the story continues in Written in My Own Heart's Blood.
It is 1778: France declares war on Great Britain, the British army leaves Philadelphia, and George Washington's troops leave Valley Forge in pursuit. At this moment, Jamie Fraser returns from a presumed watery grave to discover that his best friend has married his wife; his illegitimate son has discovered (to his horror) who his father really is; and his beloved nephew, Ian, wants to marry a Quaker. Meanwhile, Jamie's wife, Claire, and his sister, Jenny, are busy picking up the pieces.
The Frasers can only be thankful that their daughter Brianna and her family are safe in 20th-century Scotland. Or not. In fact, Brianna is searching for her own son, who was kidnapped by a man determined to learn her family's secrets. Her husband, Roger, has ventured into the past in search of the missing boy - never suspecting that the object of his quest has not left the present. Now, with Roger out of the way, the kidnapper can focus on his true target: Brianna herself.
Written in My Own Heart's Blood is the brilliant next chapter in a masterpiece of the imagination unlike any other.

Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Greater Appreciation on Second Reading
Originally, I read the books as they were published and thoroughly enjoyed them. This time I decided to read them back to back, and found I enjoyed them even more. I did not think this was possible, but these books are so complex, it is just not possible to get everything the first time through.
I recommend this exercise to all who love the Outlander series, as you will surely find scenes that you missed or misinterpreted before.

So worth the long wait. Another 5 star addition...
What did you love best about Written in My Own Heart's Blood?
These characters are like old and dear friends by now. I loved every scene that reacquainted me with those old friends. The modern scenes with Brianna and Roger and the historical ones with Jamie and Claire. I've read this series many times now this book is equal to the other 5 star books in the series.
What did you like best about this story?
As always Diana Gabaldon can pull at my heart strings and bring me to tears with her wonderful words. Davina Porter brings these characters to life like noone else possibly could, effortlessly giving a unique to voice to each and every character. I loved it from beginning to end,
Which scene was your favorite?
It's not possible to pick one favorite. Claire's injury during the battle is one, Brianna and Roger reuniting was another. I loved that William was in the story more and I always love Lord John Grey, and then of course the final scene of the book (no spoilers) made me cry.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I wanted to, but it's not possible at 45 hours...I am still waiting (a week later) for my 2 pre-ordered hardcover editions to arrive!! Thank goodness I had the audiobook or I would have burst from anticipation before now!
Any additional comments?
Write faster Diana! I know there's a lot going on with the new Outlander series getting ready to start but I can't wait for the next book! I guess I'll have to make do with the STARZ series and re-reading all of the books AGAIN. Terrific book. Well worth the wait!

Spot on once again. Love, love, love, Outlander!
Diana Gabaldon, and Davina Porter are the perfect combination! I have to say, Davina Porter is the voice of the Outlander Series at Audible.com. There are not enough stars for Ms. Porter! Just WOW! I had to stop and shed tears after listening to the part of the print shop and Henri-Christian and Germain. I say no more. Now, that's a great Arthur and Narrator combination who draws emotions out of the listener. It will be difficult to wait for the next book, but, wait I will.

Loved it!!!!
I was a bit worried that listening to a book this long would get tedious but it toddled along nicely and kept my interest up.
Unfortunately, Diana has gone and left us hanging again right at the end!!!! OMG>>>I hope we don't have to wait long for the next one.
This is the first Outlander novel I have listened to on audio although I do now own them all and I must say that Davina Porter did a capital job and all her voices were much the same as the ones in my head, so phew!
