About this listen

Candlemaker Hazel Wickbury has a secret. She knows when someone is going to die.

Welcome to Crucible, a small town with a storied history. Founded by five prestigious families, Crucible has been tucked away in upstate New York for centuries under the protection of a shield enchantment cast by Jedidiah Glenmyre, Hazel's revered ancestor. The enchanted barrier is meant to protect Crucible from anything bad ever happening to the town. No crime, no awful weather, no natural disasters—a haven from the greater world.

That is, until the heir to a billion-dollar company is found dead in his home. With the help of her uncanny power, known as a "whim," Hazel realizes foul play is involved. But more than being concerned about a murderer running loose and Jedidiah Glenmyre's protection shield deteriorating, Hazel and her aunt Poppy are worried the town's kindhearted art teacher will be charged with the sinister crime.

Hazel and Poppy team up with an internationally acclaimed mystery author visiting Crucible to figure out who had it in for the victim. Their fledgling investigation has them questioning if long-time friends have turned into foes, and whether blood is really thicker than water.

Determined to prove her friend innocent, Hazel is ready to shine a light on the real killer…if they don't snuff her out first.

Great storyline, but....

I'm so torn with this listen, you know how it is when you read a synopsis then finish the book and you're like umm. That's how it was for me. I enjoyed the characters and the family history in Crucible, I even like the fact that the town name really is tied to the spell placed on the town. Now that's just how I see it and it might not be the authors intent. 😀

I absolutely enjoy the Glenmyre family then and now and the whims they have. Here where it gets tricky for me I needed more development to the story. More why. With that said I'm looking forward to Book 2 because the idea of the story give me the goose's.

not for me

I couldn't get into You can't Handle the Truth. The story just falls flat. The pace was slow and I didn't finish it.

Great cozy mystery to listen too!

The story in “You Can’t Candle the Truth” builds effortlessly due to the outstanding descriptions and easy style that the author uses throughout the book. The town and characters are easy to picture in your mind, you will want to pack up and move.. Total enjoyment! Great characters, really fun plot twists and it is never obvious who did it until they are revealed. A great mystery, a fun listen and I look forward to finding out what happens next…
