About this listen

"I could not get enough of Jasmine and Ashton! I adored Jasmine--her ambition, her confidence, her attacks of self-doubt, and especially her hilarious, snarky, and loving cousins. She and Ashton have such a steamy, swoony, love story that I didn't want the book to end!"--Jasmine Guillory, New York Times bestselling author

RITA® Award Winning author Alexis Daria brings listeners an unforgettable, hilarious rom-com set in the drama-filled world of telenovelas—perfect for fans of Jane the Virgin and The Kiss Quotient.

Leading Ladies do not end up on tabloid covers.

After a messy public breakup, soap opera darling Jasmine Lin Rodriguez finds her face splashed across the tabloids. When she returns to her hometown of New York City to film the starring role in a bilingual romantic comedy for the number one streaming service in the country, Jasmine figures her new “Leading Lady Plan” should be easy enough to follow—until a casting shake-up pairs her with telenovela hunk Ashton Suárez.

Leading Ladies don’t need a man to be happy.

After his last telenovela character was killed off, Ashton is worried his career is dead as well. Joining this new cast as a last-minute addition will give him the chance to show off his acting chops to American audiences and ping the radar of Hollywood casting agents. To make it work, he’ll need to generate smoking-hot on-screen chemistry with Jasmine. Easier said than done, especially when a disastrous first impression smothers the embers of whatever sexual heat they might have had.

Leading Ladies do not rebound with their new costars.

With their careers on the line, Jasmine and Ashton agree to rehearse in private. But rehearsal leads to kissing, and kissing leads to a behind-the-scenes romance worthy of a soap opera. While their on-screen performance improves, the media spotlight on Jasmine soon threatens to destroy her new image and expose Ashton’s most closely guarded secret.

A rom-com with sabor Latino!
Okay, I’m not really a romance kind of guy, but when I hear the word telenovela my ears automatically perk up! That’s because I was reared on them and like them. A lot! Spanish-language soaps, or telenovelas, have evolved from cheesy, low-budget productions to lavish multimillion-dollar franchises that often go on to be remade as successful American TV shows such as Ugly Betty and Jane the Virgin. Alexis Daria’s, You Had Me at Hola, is exactly what I was expecting—a laugh-out-loud, rom-com set amid the production of a newly greenlit novela. A spilled cup of coffee leads to a romantic chance meeting between the two main stars. And yes, sparks immediately fly. Seraphine Valentine’s narration is spot-on with the Borinquen-inspired lingo delivered with perfect comic timing. If you liked the Americanized versions of the telenovelas I mentioned, you’ll surely enjoy the Latin flavor of You Had Me at Hola. —Edwin D., Audible Editor

Strong and Vulnerable

This book is filled with strong characters who each have their vulnerabilities. It is in their weakness they are most human and feel so real we know them. The fun setting of filming a series, showing parts of what is happening on set versus what is happening in their real lives adds another twist to the story. The dynamics of family and their differences individually, culturally and geographically add another layer to the comedy. We all perceive our place in the family as one way but another may believe that place is different. Those misconceptions can be comical but are too often painful. Alexis Daria shows us both sides of the family drama and gives a little insight into how our young self image can affect our adult image. This was a beautiful, sexy love story of finding that person who is just right for you and what it takes to keep them.

A nice surprise

This was a great listen. The story was great, characters were well developed, relatable and the romance was the right amount of hot & steamy. A nice surprise.

Simply Perfection

This book is truly amazing. As someone who doesn’t tend to read much romance this book has completely made me feel in love. The character development, the story line, the Latine representation; it was all perfection. Cannot wait to read “A Lot Like Adios”

Can’t get enough

This was so good. It’s not like Jane the Virgin as they sell it, but it’s still amazing!

2 Stories in 1

I love how we get 2 stories, Jasmine and Ashton and Carmen and Victor. I really want to watch Carmen in Charge. This was a great story and I love the message about being happy and whole all by yourself. Our happiness should never depend on a lover or anyone else. Excellent story.

Uplifting, sexy, romantic

This book was really just about being yourself before you can be in a relationship. Both characters have high drama to work through but they become better people in order to be together. That’s what I love most about romance. It’s also some of the most sex positive romance sex scenes I’ve read/listened to!

I loved everything about the book. I loved that it had people from my culture speaking my language and in the Bronx. It was an entertaining book that made me feel connected to the characters.
