About this listen

Welcome to Isla Bruja, a secret magical enclave near Miami and home to the richest and most powerful Latinx witch families.

When Catalina Cartagena returns home for her older sister’s wedding, she’s shocked to discover that her soon-to-be brother in law is possessed by a demon. To make matters worse, everyone else seems to be under the demon's spell - except for Diego Paz, younger brother of the groom and Cat’s childhood rival.

With only three days until the wedding, Cat must join forces with her sexy nemesis to break the spell and defeat the demon. If they fail, demonic forces will control two of the most powerful witch families on Isla Bruja.

There’s only one bed at the magical B&B, and it’s time for these witches to get wicked...in more ways than one.

Cute and sassy

A little fun, a little zing and excellent narration. A rom-com with a magical twist. Enjoy

Super cute story

I liked the story line. The pace of it was great. The narrator did a good job bringing the story and characters to life.

I didn’t like that it felt like there was something missing. The immediate cohesion of the supposed rivals was just there. I feel like there should’ve been a little more initial pushback from the heroine of the story.
Aside from that, it’s a wonderful, well put together story that is engaging to the reader/listener.

Latin Magic in Miami

A very enjoyable tale about Latin magic as it's used by a Miami family of Cuban heritage. A young witch, having run away to New York to start her clothing business, returns to Miami for the wedding of her sister. She is expected to ensorcell the wedding gown to make it even more bewitching. She runs into her old boyfriend, a demon, her family, and hijinks ensue.

Stilted narration and lackluster romance

I found the narrator’s delivery to be stilted and awkward which pulled me out of the story too much.

The story was a great concept and has legs but the main characters fall into bed so soon that you can’t help but think it’s just a fling and doesn’t mean much to either. Should have built up the tension and backstory with them more.
The bad guy isn’t very scary and didn’t feel like it mattered much if it was there or not.

Okay but not great. Meh. I was hoping for more.

Nice short magical story!

Great characters, good plot and fantastic narration.
It does have a lot of Spanish references, but not enough to distract from the story, I understood most words but just an FYI for those that no none.

great narrator

not a YA story. story a little weak, with some adult content thrown in to try to make readers interested.

Love to the Spanglish!!!

Great quick listen. Cute story and wish there was more. Truly loved the writing and the use of Spanish. As a Latinx this book was written exactly who I think using both languages because they are a huge part of me. Also I am very happy that the narrator was Latinx as well, it helped convey the story with the proper pronunciation.
