About this listen

“Utterly charming… A Proposal They Can't Refuse is a surefire winner!” —Mia Sosa, USA Today bestselling author of The Worst Best Man

Natalie Caña turns up the heat, humor and heart in this debut rom-com about a Puerto Rican chef and an Irish American whiskey distiller forced into a fake engagement by their scheming octogenarian grandfathers.

Kamilah Vega is desperate to convince her family to update their Puerto Rican restaurant and enter it into the Fall Foodie Tour. With the gentrification of their Chicago neighborhood, it's the only way to save the place. The fly in her mofongo—her blackmailing abuelo says if she wants to change anything in his restaurant, she'll have to marry the one man she can't stand: his best friend’s grandson.

Liam Kane spent a decade working to turn his family’s distillery into a contender. But just as he and his grandfather are on the verge of winning a national competition, Granda hits him with a one-two punch: he has cancer and has his heart set on seeing Liam married before it’s too late. And Granda knows just the girl…Kamilah Vega.

If they refuse, their grandfathers will sell the building that houses both their businesses. With their futures on the line, Kamilah and Liam plan to outfox the devious duo, faking an engagement until they both get what they want. But soon, they find themselves tangled up in more than either of them bargained for.

Fun Rom-Com

I enjoyed the ethnic side of the story. The book made me want to try out the food for myself. 🤗

New fave

I was lucky enough to get this gem of a story as a daily deal. I wasn’t sure what to expect as I haven’t listened to this author before. I was pleasantly surprised to find the story was very sweet. Even though I didn’t understand some of the Spanish sprinkled into the story it didn’t spoil the excellent narration. Thoroughly enjoyed this one

Miss English

The story was nice. The narrator spoke a little fast, so I slowed it down to point nine. However, I don’t speak Spanish so when there was Spanish throughout the book, I had to wait for translation. If there was no translation, I lost that part of the story.

Kind of disappointed after all the good reviews.

I did not think this book was as good as all the reviews that it was. too much Spanish didn't understand any of it, too much yelling and screaming. The story was good, but...

Me encanta! loved it!

heartwarming story with a love letter to puertoricam culture and love for family. It is a slowburn romance with a witty FMC and a moody MMC. Still, story takes to what many minority families encounter but with a love story that reminds you that love is patient, accepting and something beautiful to create. It is my first book from the author cant wait for more. The narration is good and she does well portraying each characters personality.

Good Harlequin Story

This was a great escape and just what I needed to listen to at this moment. It made me smile and laugh. I liked how the author drew the reader in and feel as if they were part of the Vega and Kane families. Love is not easy or straightforward.

Amazing narrator for a great story!

Witty, funny, cute, heart wrenching, and delightful, this book is a perfect light, summer read.

The narrator is hands down one of the most talented I've ever heard.

A delightful entrance into a new series.

Camilla is the youngest child and only daughter in family that own a restaurant that features traditional Puerto Rican food. Liam's grandfather owns the distillery next door. The pair's grandfathers blackmail them into a fake engagement. Friends since childhood. Both have struggles to face and overcome. Both face identifying what they want their lives to
be and who they want it to be with. The narrator did an outstanding job with the Puerto Rican accent and in differentiating the voices of the individuals in the story. A delightful and entertaining read, and I look forward to the best book in the series. 👍

This book was just what I needed and I didn’t want it to end. Excellent story and narration! I really hope we get some more books with Abuelo’s meddling and to watch this family grow.
