About this listen

Inspired by Saw and our social media addiction, you are about to learn why you don't really need all those friends, or rather, why they don't deserve to be called that.

The story rings true to life. How many of your Facebook friends would come to rescue you if your life depnded on them? This story makes you think. The story was well written and to the point. I was given a copy of this book in exchange for a review.

This was a great short story

OK, this is absolutely my favorite George Saoulidis story to date. It is a first person story, set in some crummy abandoned building, with a victim who has a multitude of friends, or does she? I really enjoyed listening to the one-sided conversation between the kidnapper and his victim as she calls her "friends" for help. The villains joy is subtle, and he seems very sympathetic to the victim's cause. He tries to help her as much as he can, but in the end her fate is up to her friends. And it is OK, because she has a lot of friends.

Barry Shannon is simply fabulous as the kidnapper. I swear, there are points where he comes off sounding like a demented Patrick Stewart, and it soooo works for the story. He has a lot of weight to pull, as he is essentially having a one sided conversation with himself, and yet he manages to make it feel organic and natural. Their creativity as writer and narrator really melded together well in this instance. Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.

You Have Too Many Friends: A God Complex Universe Short Story by George Saoulidis. The narration is provided by Barry Shannon. The running time is only 20 minutes. During that time the listener gets a truly amazing short story with biting social commentary. The audiobook is a told from the point of view of the serial killer who kidnaps people who he feels have too many friends on their social media accounts. He sets them up with a randomizer program to choose a friend of their social media account to call for help to come to save them. Pick them up in a seedy part of town. If they do not the gun will fire and the victim only will have so many chances to call for help.

The narration by Mr. Shannon is simply amazing. This is the first time I have heard a performance from him but I was blown away. He was perfect for this character. Mr. Shannon provided just the right tone of lightness and menace with a bit of sarcastic glee. The production quality of this audiobook is of the highest quality. I heard no problems during the entire performance. There were not any detectable flaws that I was able to hear during the entire performance. I did not hear any loops, breaks, or buzzing. The production was crisp and clear Mythography Studios delivered an excellent audiobook production. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

A great short story that makes the reader think about how many TRUE friends you might have. Even though you have thousands of so-called friends on Social Media, would one of them actually come to your rescue in a life or death situation?

The narrator, Barry Shannon, has the perfect voice for this creepy tale. His performance definitely adds a whole other dimension to this tale.

This entertaining little short was also a (non-preachy) wake-up call to the digital generation. The style/delivery also helped push this across the line. It's only 20 minutes, but time well spent in my opinion.

Great little short

I am so glad I got this audio and I am amazed that I haven't seen this scenario before. It's so twenty-first century! How many "friends" are added to help with games or whatever but they are not truly your friends. It's crazy how this is used against the victim in this story. I wouldn't say Saw had anything to do with this, it's not you live or the other person does but it is definitely about society's social media addiction. I really enjoyed listening to this story, despite it being a horrible situation, I even found myself chuckling at the kidnapper's comments. The narration was absolutely wonderful! Barry Shannon really brought the story to life and made the experience even better. Overall, a really great story well worth your twenty minutes!! I will be recommending this book to my friends.

This short story will definitely grab hold of you and cause you to reevaluate our current reality of social media and how we define the word “friend”. I kept thinking about how I might manage to get through if I was put in the same situation as our unheard subject who is being taught a lesson about what it means to call someone a friend. I’d like to think my story would turn out better, but I’m not so sure...
