Publisher's summary

In this Regency romance, an English aristocrat needs a wife for his post, but the woman he chooses is searching for love.

With her three good friends all recently married, Elizabeth Turley is ready for some husband-hunting of her own. One gentleman in particular sparks her interest. Geoffrey, earl of Harrington, is tall, handsome, and dashing. He's also just a bit too sure of himself. But Elizabeth has observed enough about the rules of attraction to pique the earl's attention. Yet once she has it, the discovery of a troubling secret taints her future happiness....

Lord Harrington must marry or lose a prestigious position in Brussels, and pretty, well-connected Elizabeth fits his needs admirably. But could it be that he has underestimated his bride? She doesn't bat an eye in the face of the danger they encounter overseas. She's strong-willed, intelligent, and more enticing each day - yet also more indifferent to him. Now Geoffrey faces his greatest challenge: to woo and win his own wife or risk losing her for good....

Contains mature themes.

Just blah

I've listened to the rest of the Worthington books and this is just blah in comparison. I could not find any redeeming qualities in Harrington the "hero" and Elizabeth deserved better. it was hard to finish because it never really got better. it feels like the author had to write x amount of pages and just added filler to do so. The two main characters hardly spent any time together throughout the book. I couldn't feel the chemistry between the two in all 30+ chapters.

why did I pay for this?

there is just nothing interesting happening in the story. 3 seconds after listening, it's out of mind... how is this not a novella?!!

hero??

it was a pleasant read, my only drawback was the supposed hero was in previous books and a bit of a wimp. And in this book, the wimp remained, never saw a strong masculine male. just a confused, how to get a bride guy. He's led by aunts, grandmothers and mothers, his dad buys his career... so if you root for the clumsy, unheroic male lead, this is your read.

Long and Boring

The plot starts out pretty good. Funny moments of young love and Familia interference. Unfortunately, that part ends about 1/3 through. The rest of the story is about the journey to Brussels on the eve of Waterloo. I kept hoping something would happen but for many hours it was like watching paint dry with the exception of this ridiculous manufactured tension between the once happy couple... instead the FMC harbors hurt feeling over something the MC knows nothing about but she expects him to guess that she wants to be told he loves her. So here they are literally headed into a war zone with soldiers who most may not survive and she's peevish because her wonderful husband who treats her like gold hasn't said he loved her... OH BROTHER!
