Hear comedian Demetri Martin and actor Anthony Anderson on this edition of Fresh Air. Demetri Martin's new DVD is called Person, and it's his one-hour Comedy Central special that aired earlier this year. Martin is best known for his appearances on The Daily Show with John Stewart. He's also written for the Conan O'Brien Show, for which he garnered an Emmy nomination.

Writer Michael Patrick Hearn and columnist Stanley Bing on this edition of Fresh Air. Michael Patrick Hearn is the editor of The Annotated Wizard of Oz: A Centennial Edition. The book commemorates the 100th anniversary of the publication of L. Frank Baum's classic The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Back in 1900, the first 10,000 copies printed of Baum's book sold out in two weeks. Baum wrote fourteen Oz books in all.

On this edition of Fresh Air, host Terry Gross speaks with Mamoun Fandy, Professor at the Near-East South Asia Center for Strategic Studies at the National Defense University. He's written for The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and regularly for The Christian Science Monitor. His latest book is Saudi Arabia and the Politics of Dissent. Plus, classical music critic Lloyd Schwartz reflects on what music he has and has not been listening to.

Elizabeth Gitter's book is The Imprisoned Guest: Samuel Howe and Laura Bridgman, the Original Deaf-Blind Girl. Gitter came upon the story of Laura Bridgman and was fascinated by this forgotten chapter of history. Bridgman learned to read and write, but her fame was eclipsed by the more charming and attractive Helen Keller.

War correspondent and CNN's former international correspondent Peter Arnett and Retired Navy Captain Peter Huchthausen on this edition of Fresh Air. Peter Arnett became best known for his reporting from Baghdad during the allied bombing raid which heralded the start of the Gulf War. Arnett has more than 30 years of experience reporting, mostly for the Associated Press.

Attorney Cass Sunstein on this edition of Fresh Air. Cass Sunsetin's considered by many to be one of the nation's authorities when it comes to interpreting the U.S. Constitution. He's the author of One Case at a Time: Judicial Minimalism on the Supreme Court, which came out last year. On this show, he explains the legal aspects of the election controversy in Florida.

NPR foreign correspondent Tom Gjelten on this archival edition of Fresh Air. Gjelten's book is Sarajevo Daily. During the height of the Serbian siege on Sarajevo the city was in ruins but one symbol of hope remained constant for its people, Oslobodjenje the city's multi-ethnic daily newspaper.

Writer Paul Feig, history professor Lewis Gould, and film critic and historian David Thomson on this edition of Fresh Air. Paul Feig is the creator of the now defunct TV comedy series Freaks and Geeks. He wrote a book Kick Me: Adventures in Adolescence.

Writer Neil Baldwin on this edition of Fresh Air. Neil Baldwin is the author of the new book Henry Ford and the Jews: The Mass Production of Hate. In the book he details Ford's early obsession with moralistic writings condemning Jews for not accepting Christ. Shortly before World War I and continuing into the '30s, he wrote a series of venomous antisemitic essays in the newspaper The Dearborn Independent (which he owned).

Hear writer, editor, and speaker Peggy Orenstein, rock critic Ken Tucker, and book critic Maureen Corrigan, on this edition of Fresh Air. Peggy Orenstein has spoken about issues affecting girls and women in the past. She's also a contributing editor for The New York Times Magazine. Her article about the use of donor eggs for in vitro fertilization is in the Sunday, July 16th, edition of the magazine.

Director of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Liz Thompson and Film Forum Director Bruce Goldstein on this edition of Fresh Air. The Lower Manhattan Cultural Council brought art, dance, and performance to World Trade Center Plaza. They had offices in WTC building five; a number of their artists had studio space in tower one. One of their artists, sculptor Michael Richards, was killed in the attack. Liz Thompson was at a meeting in tower one when the attack took place.

Writer and radio personality Garrison Keillor on this edition of Fresh Air. Garrison Keillor is the host and writer of A Prairie Home Companion, broadcast from Minnesota and heard weekly on public radio stations nationwide. Last year, Keillor published two new books. One is a semi-autobiographical novel, called Lake Wobegon Summer 1956. The other is in collaboration with photographer Richard Olsenius: In Search of Lake Wobegon.

Psychiatrist and director of the Gaza Community Mental Health Programme, Dr. Eyad El-Sarraj and Psychiatrist, peace activist and feminist, Dr. Ruchama Marton on this archive edition of Fresh Air. The Programme is a non-profit Palestinian, non-governmental organization, formed to help families cope with the aftermath of torture and violence. El-Sarraj is well known in the occupied territories and Isreal as Gaza's first practicing psychiatrist and for his efforts to foster co-existence between Arabs and Jews.

Spanish filmmaker Alejandro Amenabar and author Allen Kurzweil on this edition of Fresh Air. Amenabar's new film is a horror film called The Others, staring Nicole Kidman. It's his first English language feature. His first film, Tesis, won seven Goyas, the Spanish equivalent of the Oscars, in 1997. His second movie, Abre los Ojos (Open Your Eyes), has been remade in the US. The film, Vanilla Sky, was made by Cameron Crowe and stars Tom Cruise.

New York Times reporters David Barstow and Don Van Natta, Jr., on this edition of Fresh Air. They went to Florida following the closest presidential election in history. During a six-month investigation, the two journalists found "under intense pressure from the Republicans, Florida officials accepted hundreds of overseas absentee ballots that failed to comply with state election laws."

Journalist Anne Nivat is the Moscow correspondent for the French paper Liberation. Two years ago, after the Russians denied her press access to Chechnya, she disguised herself as a Chechen peasant woman and snuck across the border. For six months, she followed the war, traveling with the underground rebels and staying with families. Her reports were published in Liberation. Her new memoir is Chienne De Guerre: A Woman Reporter Behind the Lines of the War in Chechnya.

Hear journalist Charlie Savage and jazz critic Kevin Whitehead on this edition of Fresh Air. The Boston Globe's Charlie Savage received the 2007 Pulitzer Prize award for National Reporting for his series of articles in the Globe about revelations that President Bush often used "signing statements" to assert his controversial right to bypass provisions of new laws. Savage has written a new book that describes how the Bush-Cheney administration has expanded executive power.

Rock musician Wayne Kramer and linguist Geoff Nunberg on this encore edition of Fresh Air. Guitarist, singer, songwriter Wayne Kramer founded the MC5, a Detroit band considered to be the prototype for punk rock, in the late 1960s. By 1972, the band had burned out. In between then and now, Kramer did time in jail for drugs, teamed up with Don and David Was to found the group Was (Not Was), and began a solo career.

Writer Armistead Maupin on this edition of Fresh Air. Maupin is the creator of the award-winning newspaper serial turned TV series Tales of the City. His new book, The Night Listener, is his first novel in eight years. It examines the relationship that grows between a cult writer and one of his younger radio fans; critics have noted the autobiographical subtext to the story. Maupin won the 1998 Peabody Award for his work in television and has written several novels and two collections of essays. He lives in San Francisco.
