Un représentant de commerce est retrouvé dans un petit appartement de Reykjavik, tué d'une balle de colt et le front marqué d'une croix gammée dessinée avec son sang. Rapidement les soupçons portent sur les soldats étrangers qui grouillent dans la ville en cet été 1941. Detective Sigurdur Oli is in trouble.
