Gaston Leroux is best known for writing the novel The Phantom of the Opera. However, he also wrote some excellent detective stories. In fact,Leroux's contribution to French detective fiction is considered a parallel to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's in the United Kingdom and Edgar Allan Poe's in America. Christine grows to be a magnificent singer with a beautiful voice. One day her childhood friend visits the Opera and he falls in love with her. The phantom who taught Christine to sing and who was imperceptibly by her side, gets jealous and things go out of control.

Eric possessed many truly brilliant and extraordinary abilities including musical genuis. Being outcast from society for his ugliness, Eric was forced to wander from one country to another. When in France, he worked at fairs demonstrating tricks and ventriloquism. Later he became a bricklayer and was engaged in building the Paris Opera House. Upon completion of the construction, Eric decided to hide from the world in the cellars of the Opera and turned this great building into his own empire.

He can never seriously hope she will love him back.

Es ironico que de las decenas de obras que escribiera el novelista frances Gaston Leroux la que le ha dado inmortalidad es el clasico del horror llamado El fantasma de la opera, la historia de un artista desfigurado que se oculta en las catacumbas de la Opera de Paris para vengarse contra el mundo, hasta el dia que se enamora de una bella cantante, que cambia por completo el curso de su vida.
