This wasn't like Adam Cain—AKA: The Human for Hire. He wasn't supposed to be compassionate and caring. But for some reason, he'd taken the former Third-Generation Human John Martinez under his wing and was now determined to show him what the real Human race was all about. When last we left our intrepid heroes, Adam Cain had been taken captive by the new mutant queen of the flesh-eating Sol-Kor invaders, while his trusty sidekick Riyad Tarazi made it safely back to the Milky Way. Now Riyad sets out on a desperate mission to rescue Adam. His task appears impossible, as Adam is being held in another universe cut off from our own. The only person who can help Riyad is the immortal mutant genius Panur, who's disappeared somewhere in the galaxy with Adam's daughter Lila.

As all the great forces in the galaxy gather for one final, epic battle to determine who will rule the Milky Way, massive star fleets from the Juireans and the Humans converge on ground zero - the Kracori homeworld of Elision. Against such overwhelming firepower, it's a given that Elision will be destroyed - unless the Kracori and their reluctant allies, the Klin, can mount a surprise end-around defense of the planet. At stake in this galactic free-for-all is nothing less than the survival of the all the species involved. Fail...and your race dies as well.

For the past 20 years, humanity - along with its ultimate weapon, the superhuman warriors known as REVs - has been at war with the more powerful and technologically advanced Antaere race. As latecomers to the galactic community, the humans have been playing catch-up, proving that their innate skill at waging war can help skip a lot of steps on the way to galactic domination. That was until two years ago. Now nearly all the civilizations within the local Grid of colonized planets have turned against the humans.

In a continuation of the events begun in Raiders of the Shadow, Adam Cain and Copernicus Smith face off against an old enemy . . . in fact, several old enemies. The Klin have returned, as have the Second Generation Humans from the early days of The Human Chronicles. Their old foe is back at it again, but this time teamed up with the deadly weapons manufacturer Xan-fi, on another galaxy-conquering quest. But this time, they won't be denied.

But he has to be careful that his past doesn't catch up to him. You can't go around kicking alien butt without ruffling a few feathers . . . or scales . . . or whatever the alien du jour happens to have for skin. And when Adam later teams up with another famous bounty hunter, things really begin to go south.

After the defeat of the evil Antaere in the first REV series, Zac and his super warriors carry on, as the hammer used against a myriad of obstinate races. The Union of Affiliated Systems (Earth's new stellar empire) is determined to expand far beyond the Grid, using the REVs as the means of convincing reluctant species to join. After all, its for their own good. Membership in the UAS will benefit all. So what if a little blood has to be spilled in the meantime? Zac didn't want command of the REV force in the first place, and now he's put in an impossible situation.

After Zac Murphy and Angus Price are fired from their jobs as leaders of the REV fleet that's been expanding the human stellar empire, a new danger appears in the Outer Reaches: A super-race capable of smashing humanity like a bug. As all of the Union's past gains are lost, Earth is desperate for salvation. They find it in the unlikely union of mortal enemies - Zac and Dr. David Cross. Everything is going great in the Milky Way Galaxy. Adam's immortal mutant alien daughter Lila is running the Expansion, and the Orion-Cygnus Union is experiencing its first period of peace and tranquility since its founding. Yet things are not as idyllic as they seem. A new alien threat has entered the galaxy, bringing with it a level of pragmatic barbarism unmatched by anyone in the Milky Way. Add to this, an ancient home-grown power has returned, curious to see the results of its three-billion-year-long galactic experiment.

Adam Cain is a super Human, everyone's hero, the go-to guy when the galaxy needs saving. So why is he broke and looking to hire out his special talents just to keep his head above water? Don't misunderstand him; busting alien heads is what he does best. It's just that he thought those days were over after the evil Klin were wiped out. Not hardly. It seems his adventures are just beginning.

The ancient Aris helped created nearly all advanced life in the galaxy. But they weren't alone. Now the long lost Children of the Aris have resurfaced, freed from their Quantum prison. And now, they're on a mission to reconstitute their race, supplanting all other life in the Milky Way. And to that end they need the mysterious Formation device. To get it, they've kidnapped the super mutants, Panur and Lila. Little do they know, Panur is no longer immortal and he will surely die if Adam Cain and his friends can't find him and Adam's daughter, Lila, in time.

A major new threat to the galaxy.... A political firestorm underway.... Aliens and Humans aligned against each other.... Fortunately, we have Adam Cain to save the day!

As the story of the REVs continue, the forces at work - either to destroy these enhanced super-warriors or to promote them - come together in a fight for the destiny of human evolution. And while the powers-that-be are tearing themselves apart with this internal struggle, mankind also faces the continuing threat of the alien Antaere...plus something new from outside the Grid. Just when the Humans thought they had the war won, this new threat appears on the scene and messes up everything.

With the ancient Aris service module Kanan out of the picture - at least for a while - there's a lot for Marshal Adam Cain to tend to within the Dead Zone. If Adam thought things were wild and woolly before, wait until he sees what happens in the aftermath of Kanan. Politics, terrorists, assassins, thieves, and more...I could go on and on, but you get the picture. And now, as Adam slowly builds a secret force of super agents within the ranks of Enforcers, they begin to take on assignments usually reserved for, well, supermen. Fortunately, the shoe fits.

When Adam Cain's old bounty-hunting friends, Summer, Monty, and Tidus, show up searching for the most-wanted fugitive in the galaxy, their efforts are thwarted by another old friend, Copernicus Smith. The deep-cover spy has his own reason for finding the fugitive, and it's not to earn the million-credit bounty offered for his capture. The elusive alien absconded with billions of credits from his homeworld just before the Mad Aris Kracion irradiated the planet. And now it seems as though the entire galaxy is looking for him.

The Klin. It's a name that has invoked fear throughout the galaxy for over four thousand years. Now the evil aliens are back and more powerful and deadlier than ever. And this time it's the Klin against the entire galaxy, not just the species who have pissed them off. Leading an army of billions of killer robots and a fleet of invincible starships, the Klin are determined to be the last species standing in a war that reaches from one end of the Milky Way to the other.
