An August heat wave has all of Brittany in its grasp, and the only chance to cool down for Commissaire Georges Dupin is his daily swim in the ocean. Until one morning his routine is interrupted because a body has been found in the harbor with clear signs of foul play. Patric Provost was from one of the long-established families on the island of Belle-Île, Breton's biggest and most famous island. Provost owned and operated a company dealing in an island delicacy: the famous Belle-Île-sheep.

A town on the sea, Concarneau's nickname is Ville Bleue, or the Blue Town. With three harbors at its center, visitors can see enormous ships, sailors, fishermen, and the industry that goes alongside it. Because of its geographical location, Concarneau has shown it's perfectly positioned to protect its inhabitants from enemy attacks. For this reason and more, including his favorite restaurant, the Amiral, Commissaire Georges Dupin calls this town home. Most of his colleagues are on vacation for the Pentecost long weekend, but Dupin remains. His future in-laws are coming to visit.

The old salt farmers have always said that the violet scent of the Fleur de Sel at harvest time on the salt marshes of the Guerande Peninsula has been known to cause hallucinations. Commissaire Dupin also starts to believe this when he's attacked out of the blue in the salt works. He had actually been looking forward to escaping his endless paperwork and taking a trip to the "white country" between the raging Atlantic Ocean and idyllic rivers.

Along the picturesque Belon River, home of the world famous oyster beds, between steep cliffs, ominous forests, and the Atlantic Ocean, a stubborn elderly film actress discovers a corpse. By the time Commissaire Dupin arrives at the scene, the body has disappeared. A little while later, he receives a phone call from the mystical hills of Monts d'Arree, where legends of fairies and the devil abound: Another unidentified body has turned up. Dupin quickly realizes this may be his most difficult and confounding case yet.

The forest of Broceliande, with its picturesque lakes and castles, is the last remnant of the fairy kingdom, if Breton lore is to be believed. Innumerable legends spanning thousands of years are set here, including the tale of King Arthur and the Round Table. It seems to be an appropriate destination for Commissaire Dupin and his team to take a late summer field trip. But when the body of a historian turns up, Dupin is called upon to investigate in the brutal murder case. Before too long, there are more victims.

Deep sea fishers, dolphin researchers, smugglers, and an island shrouded in myth in the middle of the rough Atlantic ocean: Commissaire Dupin had sworn he would never again investigate on the ocean, but his fifth case takes him offshore, off the west coast of Brittany on a beautifully sunny day in June. He lands on the unique Île de Sein, populated by more rabbits than people, where the hairdresser arrives by boat and which was formerly inhabited by powerful witches and even the devil himself.

Ten miles off the coast of Brittany lie the fabled Glénan Islands. Boasting sparkling white sands and crystal-clear waters, they seem perfectly idyllic, until one day in May three bodies wash up on the shore. At first glance the deaths appear accidental, but as the identities of the victims come to light, cantankerous Commissaire Dupin is pulled back into action for a case of what seems to be cold-blooded murder.

Inspector Dupin and Claire are on a two-week vacation, but while Claire seems to enjoy the quiet of the beach, Commissaire Dupin takes every opportunity to leave the beach towel. The fabulous dinners on the hotel patio and the rumors about a stolen statue of a saint are the few interesting moments of his days on vacation. But then a tourist vanishes without trace, and there's an attack on a deputy to the local assembly, who is involved in confrontations with local farmers. Shortly after that, the Britanny beach resort is shocked by the discovery of a corpse.

Commissaire Georges Dupin is certain these first beautiful summer days in June would be perfect for a fun trip to Saint-Malo. In a region known as the culinary heart of Brittany, the paradoxical city is known for being a uniquely Breton, yet un-Breton, place. Their cuisine's moto is voyages et aventures. Travel and adventure. Dupin would love to explore the internationally renowned cuisine one bite at a time. But to his chagrin, Dupin is there instead to attend a police seminar dedicated to closer collaboration between the Breton départements.

Auparavant, Dupin doit interroger pour le compte d'un collègue parisien le directeur du Centre de l'Imaginaire arthurien. Manque de bol, quand il se présente, c'est sur un cadavre qu'il tombe.

Rätselhafte Morde und berühmte bretonische Chocolatiers. Noch nie war Kommissar Dupin so froh, einen neuen Fall zu haben, wie an diesem herrlichen Frühsommertag. Mit einem Bein steht er bereits auf dem – bedrohlich schwankenden – Boot im Hafenbecken von Concarneau, um unter der Anleitung eines Coaches seine Thalassophobie zu überwinden, als ihn der Anruf erreicht: Eine Frau ist ertrunken. Allerdings nicht im Meer, sondern in einem Bottich aus Schokolade. Was kurios anmutet, entpuppt sich als kaltblütiger Mord an der Inhaberin einer alteingesessenen Schokoladen-Confiserie in der Ville Close.

Am äußersten Rand der Bretagne, inmitten der Urgewalten des Atlantiks, liegt die wildschöne, tiefgrüne Insel Ouessant. Dort soll Kommissar Dupin ausgerechnet im Spezialauftrag des Präfekten einen mysteriösen Tod aufklären. Ein mittelloser keltischer Musiker wird kurz vor dem wichtigsten Festival des Jahres tot am Ufer angeschwemmt. In seinem Haus entdeckt die Polizei einen Hinweis, der mit einem uralten dunklen Ritus in Verbindung gebracht wird.

Das glaubt auch Kommissar Dupin, als er in den Salinen aus heiterem Himmel angegriffen wird. Eigentlich war er froh, dem leidigen Papierkram zu entkommen und einen Ausflug ins "Weiße Land" zwischen tosendem Atlantik und idyllischen Flüssen zu unternehmen. Doch als er sich dort für Lilou Breval, eine befreundete Journalistin, nach mysteriösen Fässern umsieht, gerät er unversehens unter Beschuss.

Kommissar Dupins zwölfter Fall entführt uns in die Welt der Winzer, der vorzüglichen Weine und an den größten See der Bretagne, den Lac de Grand-Lieu, an dem schon die berühmte Kosmetikdynastie Guerlain residierte. Kommissar Dupin und Claire verbringen ihre Flitterwochen an der Loire, im traumhaften Pays de Retz. Von Weingut zu Weingut, von einem kulinarischen Hochgenuss zum nächsten soll die Reise gehen. So zumindest der Plan. Doch dann braucht eine Freundin von Claire Hilfe und ein ungeheuerlicher Mord geschieht.

Es lo último que le apetece a Georges Dupin esa mañana: tener que salir corriendo, sin haber podido tomar su segundo café, meterse en una bamboleante patrullera de la policía, atender al perfecto que le atosiga a llamadas porque un amigo suyo ha desaparecido y no disponer de la menor pista sobre la identidad de los tres cadáveres que han aparecido en una playa de las islas Glénan. ¿Quiénes eran esos tres hombres? ¿Víctimas del violento temporal que azotó el archipiélago la noche anterior? Todo apunta a que murieron ahogados, hasta que algo despierta las dudas del comisario.

Le commissaire Dupin tient bon la barre, lui qui n’a pas le pied marin. Tout prête à croire que les victimes se sont noyées. Mais l’une d’elles est un homme d’affaires, impliqué dans la politique locale. Une autre, un navigateur hors pair, propriétaire d’une célèbre école de voile, et qui collectionne les ennemis... Dupin flaire l’embrouille.

Nur wenig später erreicht Kommissar Dupin ein Anruf aus den sagenumwobenen Hügeln der Monts d’Arrée, um die sich Legenden von Feen und dem Teufel ranken. Auch dort wurde ein Toter gefunden. Doch niemand kennt seine Identität.

Malerische Abgründe - Dupin ermittelt auf der traumhaften Belle-Île. Die Hitzewelle hat in diesem August sogar die Bretagne fest im Griff, keine Aussicht auf Abkühlung für Kommissar Dupin. Und zu allem Überfluss plant Nolwenn auch noch die große Feier seines zehnjährigen Dienstjubiläums. Doch dann wird eines Morgens ein Toter an der Küste bei Concarneau aus dem Meer gefischt, ein Bewohner der legendären Belle-Île - und ehe sich Dupin versieht, befindet er sich an Bord eines Schnellbootes auf dem Weg zur "schönsten Insel der Welt".
