La mítica novela que consagró a Stanisław Lem como autor de culto. Un texto hoy en día considerado un clásico sin paliativos de la literatura moderna. Kris Kelvin acaba de llegar a Solaris. Su misión consiste en esclarecer los problemas de conducta de los tres tripulantes de la única estación de observación situada en el planeta. Solaris es un lugar peculiar: no existe la tierra firme, únicamente un extenso océano dotado de vida y, presumiblemente, de inteligencia.

Der "Unbesiegbare", der größte Kreuzer der menschlichen Raumflotte ist auf einer Mission: Im weit entfernten Sternbild der Leier ist der "Kondor", das Schwesterschiff des "Unbesiegbaren", mitsamt Mannschaft spurlos verschwunden. Die Nachforschungen auf dem trostlosen Planeten Regis III entwickeln sich bald zur lebensgefährlichen Aufgabe und stellen Kommandant Horpach und seinen 1. Offizier Rohan vor schwere Entscheidungen. Denn Regis III ist zwar ohne Leben, aber dennoch nicht unbewohnt.

Als der Psychologe Kris Kelvin auf einer Forschungsstation auf dem Planeten Solaris eintrifft, findet er eine demoralisierte und psychisch labile Mannschaft vor. Wie Kelvin bald feststellt, halten sich, neben ihm und den beiden Forschern, noch weitere Personen auf der Station auf, was seine Kollegen anfangs jedoch abstreiten. Als plötzlich Kelvins ehemalige Freundin Harey auftaucht - die sich vor einigen Jahren das Leben genommen hat -, wähnt er sich bereits wahnsinnig. Dann findet Kelvin jedoch heraus, was es mit den ungebetenen "Gästen" auf sich hat.

Stanislav Lem gelingt es in "Robotermärchen", seine dichterische Gabe der Erfindung mit der wissenschaftstheoretischen Erfassung von Problemen der Zukunft sowie mit spekulativer Kraft zu verbinden, wobei die letzte Realität dieser sonderbaren Wesen nicht die Wissenschaft, sondern die Sprache ist. Dabei sind die Robotermärchen Sprachkunstwerke mit unbestechlicher Brillanz, mit Variationsreichtum und auf der Ebene der Parodie, des Wortwitzes und an sprachlicher Virtuosität unübertroffen.
