About this listen

Every good Dick needs a sidekick.

Actor Tom Lewis’s world came crashing down when a honey trap and tabloid expose outed him and put pay to his flourishing career. The housewives favourite was most well-known for his role as Detective Fox in the quaint British series 'Malmesbury Murders'. But after the media speculation about his sexuality, the show is on hiatus and Tom hasn't worked for six months.

Now things are getting serious, money is running out and Tom needs a job desperately. So when his agent offers him a seasonal acting job, he reluctantly agrees and takes on the role of Santa for a top London department store. This decision changes Tom's luck. When Tom overhears two unidentified store workers discussing a job to get a little Christmas bonus he realizes the 'job' is of an illegal sort. Now, Tom could call the police, but then again, wouldn't it be great for his flagging career if Detective Fox saved the day? So Fox is on the case, and as every good Dick needs a sidekick, Tom decides a sexy young elf named Eli Mason will fit the role, in more ways than one!

FYI. This is a cozy M/M Romantic comedy.

Great!

Fun story with great narration! I can't wait to check out more in this series!

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. The fact that I was gifted this book had no influence over my opinion of it

Marvelous Story & Gary Furlong is Superb!

Fantastic! Leave it to Isobel Starling to combine intriguing characters, amazing chemistry, super hot kink, and an interesting storyline.

A very creative mystery set in London during Christmas time, Ms. Starling takes advantage and paints a wonderful picture of the local scene. Anyone who loves London will enjoy this one, and if you've never been, Detective Fox and the Christmas Caper is going to make you want to visit!

Performed by my all-time favorite narrator, Gary Furlong, nobody reads Starling better. His wealth of accents, comedic timing, and sultry-s^xy voice combine to make this one a smashing success.

Good for the holiday season, or any darn time, Detective Fox is one for the top of the re-listen pile!

Terrific narration

Honestly, how have I not listened to something narrated by Gary Furlong before? This audio was fantastic!

The story is well described by the blurb. Told in multiple POV, the plot requires some suspension of disbelief, but this is a fun, quirky Christmas mystery. While it may not be super plausible, it’s lighthearted and amusing, and well-polished by Furlong's narration.

There's an obvious love of the location (I just visited London for the first time and this brought me back in my memories), some kink if you're into it, a lot of humor and shenanigans - and Furlong pitches his performance to easily cover all the nuances of the story.

It's the first in a new series and ends with a strong HFN and the possibility for the main characters Tom and Eli to develop their relationship more fully as the series progresses.

Gary Furlong provides exceptional narration with a great use of character voices and accents, and terrific timing and pacing. He performs this story like an old radio show, and it's just purely entertaining to listen to.

I will definitely be keeping my eye out for more audios from Gary Furlong in the future.

A silly and fun Christmas romp in London

Gary Furlong and Isobel Starling pair up once again for another winner! This story is an absolute hoot, with a bit of kink and sexy times to go with a real life mystery for an actor that is in between shows due to being recently outed by a hookup, and a sexy elf. When the famous 'Santa' and the quirky 'Elf' get together, sparks fly. But that is not all! We are taken through various parts of London and given little history or teaching lessons too, which I found very enjoyable.
This story had me giggling, and thoroughly enjoying the wit and humor and byplay of all the supporting cast as well as the main characters. For a short little holiday story, this one was loads of fun! Do yourself a favor and give it ago. You can't go wrong with this combination!!

Kinky and funny little romp

A bit of mystery, a lot of fun, and a lot of steam, this is a short and easy listening that had me wondering about the rest of the series.

The narrator is fantastic, and the characters are entertaining, as the plot is.

I really enjoyed it.

In the holiday mood now

I like that Tom's luck got a break via his amateur sluth plans and his smexy sidekick Eli. Entertaining, funny, witty , and smexy. I enjoyed the touch of kink as it added that extra slap and tickle to the whole story . Lots of holiday fun in this cozy mystery. The narrator's voice, expressions, and accents brought the story to life for me.

Solid 3-Star Cozy Mystery/RomCom

I enjoyed this, probably more in audio than if I'd read it outright. The plot is light and has a romantic comedy feel to it. There is a mystery but it is mostly cozy and fanciful. Still, the plot and pacing was decent and fun. The characters were good, although the relationship between our two MCs wasn't wholly satisfying to me as it felt they didn't grow enough... But still, the relationship did progress and I'm thinking we might get more in the next book.

Gary Furlong as narrator did really well and lifted the story to an enjoyable 3-star rating. His pacing and comedic inflections made this a fun listen. The best part was the "caper-ish" scene at the end... Furlong did so well that I had a clear mental picture of the last scenes and was laughing out loud.

Overall, a decent listen with some good, funny moments. I'm thinking I will probably re-listen around Christmas time, just for fun.

Get your Elf hat and holiday cheer on!

This book was not what I was expecting, and I think that is its biggest virtue. I was thinking this book will be much more about the kink, and as much as I would have liked it the, the way the plot was constructed worked much better. The kink is a part of Tom’s life, the catalyst (in a way) to having him work at the department store as Santa but its not explained in detail and there is no introduction of the kink into his and Eli’s relationship. This story is much more interesting and fun when it’s a detective story/mystery/ Who-Done-It and fits the seasonal theme better. Had the subject of kink been more prominent in the story I fear it would have subtracted from it and not been given its due respect. It was also refreshing, to read a book with kink elements that are beyond very light without it being the main issue. The characters were funny, and the plot built in an interesting fashion that added to the thrill of the mystery.

As usual, Gary Furlong’s narration is fantastic, rich and versatile. Every character has a unique voice, accent and pitch, Gary is a master at British accents and delivers a compelling, funny and captivating performance.
All in all a fun, sexy, holiday themed book for the kinky detectives at heart.

Tom and Eli

4.5 stars. I truly enjoyed this fun holiday read. Tom and Eli together made for plenty of spice and some laugh out loud moments. The 'chase' with the bad guy still has me snickering.

Audiobook: Loved the narrator and all the accents he used and kept straight was delightful. Nice, clear enunciation and good pacing.
