About this listen

Sam Parker is a vampire with a gift so strong and substantial that she is invited to partake in a test for a place in the Grand High Master Vampire's private army. She finds that not only has the army never included a woman, but it has never included a Svente vampire; a breed that is regarded by the super strong Pagori breed and the hypnotically beautiful Keja breed to be too tame and human-like.

Most refuse to take her seriously, especially a Pagori commander named Jared who she craves in spite of herself. The Grand High Master, however, sees her potential and offers her the position of Jared's co-commander to help train the newest squad in time for the impending attack on his home. Sam has to demonstrate to Jared and the squad of chauvinists why it is incredibly foolish to underestimate a wilful, temperamental, borderline-homicidal Svente female.

Reread/listen

Narrating was good and so was the story. I think I would have loved the story if I’d listened/read it before Dark in You because of the similarities. Still, very enjoyable

Good!

So, this is the first book where I didn't think the male protagonist was decent at all at first. Fantastic start to transform my apathy towards Jared to actually liking him!!

Strong FMC - Be Patient w/Him MMC

FMC- romance.io tags were correct, this heroine is a badass thru and thru. Girls got some trauma, but she’s powerful and controlled. She stands up for herself and is incredibly self confident. I love reading her thoughts and feelings, she makes me feel her willpower thru the pages. She responded to some of these situations wayyy nicer than I would have which made me reflect on my own patience lol

MMC- be prepared you are about to listen to a man become aware of non-anger emotions in real time lol it’s glorious and as much as I had a deep distaste for his prejudice, listening to him learn and question his thoughts and choices and feel things he was confused about was awesome. I recommend thinking of him as more of a himbo to avoid thoughts of rooting for him to die lol cause this man tested me oooooof. he’s not my fave MMC by any measure but I don’t hate him.. I do think FMC can do so much better. I hope he improves in the next two books. We will see cause I am most certainly listening to them.

Plot is great!! FMC is a new vamp with superior smarts/power, is trapped in a bad situation and gets an opportunity to peace out. MMC is the heir to the vamp thrown, has semi-cool powers, is a very aggressive misogynist and heaux. They’re forced to work together by the very competent and cool(so freakin rare) vamp in charge. They’re coleaders of a new team that needs to prepare for an upcoming attack. All the vamps see women as lesser. It’s on the title but it’s also very drenched in the book. She whips them into shape, proves everyone wrong, and has a ton of rightly smug moments. I love it. MMC gets his ass handed to him multiple times. He grows a lot thru out the book but beware that icky taste of ick you got from him treating women like pocket cats doesnt really ebb much. He becomes pretty obsessed tho so you gotta love that.

I love Suzanne’s writing, I always do. Listen to it, you’ll like it, ima read the rest of the series, I know I am lol can’t even lie.

He sounds like a robot nerd

Eyre should have read the whole book. Ockham has a snooty voice that is robotic and too naive to pull off the male lead. I was forwarding through his narrative to get back to Eyre. Can the fix this? Cause I loved the story til he came in.
