About this listen

Kensey Lyons has never had "normal." Instead, she has a mother who lives in her head, a stepfather who's on death row, and the stigma that comes with being the child of an extramarital affair. Writing has always been her escape. Knowing the reception her books receive will be tainted by her personal life, Kensey secretly writes under a pen name when she's not working part-time at her godmother's bar. Her world might not be exciting, but she likes it exactly as it is.

When she meets alarmingly compelling businessman Blake Mercier, the snap of attraction is instant. She doesn't like it. Doesn't want to be drawn to this man who is blatantly dangerous, carries dark secrets, and lives life by his own rules. Neither of them make a great first impression on the other, so she's more than surprised when he begins to pursue her with a single-minded focus that is unsettling, thrilling, and infuriating. Her gut tells her to keep her distance, but Blake won't let her run. Won't give her space.

There's another person who won't give her space. Someone who has discovered the secret of her pen name and who seems intent on taunting her. And as Kensey struggles to identify her persecutor, Blake is by her side, determined to keep her safe...because Blake Mercier always holds tight to what's his. Always.

I love her books. This is only the 2nd one I’ve read, but I like how she builds the story. I love how her character communicate! I wish there were more like this. I think I’ll try her sci-fi and shifter books next.

Great story

Dare I say that I liked this book more than 50 Shades? Loved the chemistry between Kenzie and Blake… I didn’t find myself in moments where I wanted to roll my eyes and it was refreshing to read a romance book where the drama between characters was not drawn out, leaving you with a repetitive story line.

Better than 50 Shades!

First, I despised the way the narrator pronounced her mother’s name! I loved that the heroine had a backbone. That is lacking in so many romance novels

I put off reading this because of the other reviews and I've got to say I should've trusted my own instincts because I regret not getting to it sooner. This book is amazing! It keeps you guessing until the end, so it's not super predictable. The psychology involved between all the characters and their backgrounds was on point. The FMCs strength is not an outward physical presence but an inner resilience and strength of character. She is definitely not a damsel in distress, she is practical and takes help when it is needed, which is not a form of weakness. Give it a try. If you've read other Suzanne Wright books, the MMC follows a similar Alpha male demeanor so you won't be disappointed!

Riveting!
