About this listen

Harper Chase has just become the most powerful woman in the NHL after the death of her father Clifford Chase, maverick owner of the Chicago Rebels. But the team is a hot mess - underfunded, overweight, and close to tapping out of the league. Hell-bent on turning the luckless franchise around, Harper won't let anything stand in her way. Not her gender, not her sisters, and especially not a veteran player with an attitude problem and a smoldering gaze designed to melt her ice-compacted defenses.

Veteran center Remy "Jinx" DuPre is on the downside of a career that's seen him win big sponsorships, fans' hearts, and more than a few notches on his stick. Only one goal has eluded him: the Stanley Cup. Sure, he's been labeled as the unluckiest guy in the league, but with his recent streak of good play, he knows this is his year. So why the hell is he being shunted off to a failing hockey franchise run by a ball-buster in heels? And is she seriously expecting him to lead her band of misfit losers to a coveted spot in the playoffs? He'd have a better chance of leading Harper on a merry skate to his bed....

Contains mature themes.

I will preface this by saying I have zero interest in hockey and sport, and athletes aren't my thing - but for this series, it provides a great context for characters and plots. I found Remi to be deeply charming, in genuine and sweet (not stupid) way, and very romantic in a real sense - maybe it was his ensuring she stayed well fed. enjoyed the challenges that each lead faced, and no crazy over the top drama and angst. really felt the chemistry and connection between the two. while I don't love the narrator, she was well suited to female lead and does really well with male characters and voice differentiation.

will be returning to this one!

Pippa Jayne is amazing with both the male & female roles! And she is great with the accents. Cajun, Scots, Hispanic and never falls out of character!

The Narration Makes the Book

this was a sweet start to the series. I do wish there was a little more with the sisters and a bit more of the back story but overall I enjoyed the characters and the story. Narration was done well.

This book had potential. I could get over the irritating accents that was apparently demanded of the narrator but Harper was exasperating.

She wants her sisters to open up and have this relationship with her but she literally doesn’t open up to anyone or give off welcoming vibes. She’s frustrated me. And when she finally “opened up to them” it was whiney and cringe. There was no character growth / development.

This book ticks all the marks i am looking for in a Hockey audio romance:

- Engaging characters ✅
- Interesting story ✅
- Development of the story behind the hockey team, teammates and management✅
- Good narrator who manages multiple points of view in an engaging manner ✅

Long story short I’m happily moving on to the next book in the series and have a new author I’m following. 😃

Exactly what I want in a hockey romance

A cute, sweet, and swoon worthy adventure to go on. This book was fun and entertaining. I liked it.

I enjoyed this book. Almost gave up on it because the narration left alot to be desired. Living in the south with Cajans puts me in a position to know the accent. This was definately not it. if you can get over the butchery of some of the accents, this story is heartwarming and lovely. And shows how parental influences can really fuck over their kids. I really loved the characters. cant wait to read more about the other sisters!

Great Story, narration not so much

I wish this was a dual narrator story. The narrator's accents were so terrible that it detracted from the story! The latter 1/2 -2/3 of the story was good but I almost quit this story several times because it dragged on so bad in the first 1/2. My biggest pet peeve is that the author created two hockey player characters from places where hockey is nonexistent - New Orleans and Scotland - effectively proving she knew nothing about hockey. It irked me.

Abysmal accents
