About this listen

It all started when I left my roots behind. Meeting the man of my dreams is icing on the cake.

Devin

I've escaped my small town to attend college in Phoenix. It's time I quit living a lie and break free of my strict Mormon background.

So, what do I do? Join a pop-punk band as the lead singer. And if that's not enough, I'm determined to embrace my gender fluidity.

When a tall, dark, and handsome man walks into the bakery where I work, I'm ready. My virginity isn't all I'll lose.

As he becomes the most accepting and supportive person I've ever met, he might steal my heart.

Brandon

I've accepted the fact that I have a type—a type of guy. That guy is Devin.

From the moment I saw him, I knew he was special. I had to have him.

As I watch Devin transform into the person he's meant to be, it's clear he's conflicted. And I'll stop at nothing to keep him safe.

But when disaster strikes, can we strengthen our bond? And who will he become in the end?

good story

Devin grew up in a strict Morman family. He wasn't to embrace who he was. Not until he went away to college. He gets a job at a bakery where Brandon sees Devin. They both had some issues to get through personally. They did it together, which was nice.

Devin and Brandon witnessed an accident. They didn't think anything when they were interviewed. That is when he gets a call from his dad. That call was very upsetting.

I started this series at book 5. It is so nice to finally get to book 1. I loved seeing how the band got together.

I listened to the audio book narrated by Finnely Cole. I enjoyed listening. He makes the story come alive.

Devin and Brandon

"𝑰'𝒎 𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒂 𝒂 𝒃𝒓𝒂𝒕 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒔, 𝒐𝒏𝒍𝒚 𝒕𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉."

Devin and Brandon take us on their journey in Oɴ ᴀ Dɪꜰꜰᴇʀᴇɴᴛ Mɪssɪᴏɴ by Christie Gordon, the first book in the Rock U series.

Devin is finally enjoying his freedom and finding himself away from his old Mormon life and is even more intrigued when Brandon shows interest and acceptance of him.

Brandon has been intrigued by Devin since the moment he saw him but his shyness gets in his way until Devin accepts a date. Once Brandon gets to know Devin, he will stop at nothing to protect him.

Devin and Brandon were entertaining with their fumbling through the beginning of their journey but the more time they spent together, the more they proved they were perfect for each other. I loved how Brandon supported Devin completely through his self-discovery.

Finnley Cole was a pleasant narrator to listen to. He brought both characters to life and gave them their own voices. I enjoyed my first audiobook narrated by Finnley and look forward to more by him.

Adorably awkward

Both Devin and Brandon remind me of my teenage self. They are both so adorably awkward as they try to navigate the attraction they have for each other. A times it was so frustrating watching them bundle their way through getting to know each other. But it was also sweet and beautiful. It was a joy to see them discover their true selves while falling in love in the process. I look forward to the next book. Finnley Cole is a new Narrator to me and he did a good enough job, he just needs to work on his character voices. Almost all the characters sounds the same and that makes it hard to know who was speaking.

Sweet Couple and HEA

I've really loved the story and everything about it. The only complaint I have is I'd like 2 different narrator's but that's just a small thing. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series and would love a follow up with Dev and Brandon.

Heart Wrenchingly Beautiful

I have reread this book a few times and first time being able to listen to it. Absolutely beautiful story. The voice actor really brought my boys to life. I also found out that as usual, I was pronunciating alot of words incorrectly.

I love this book and cannot recommend it enough. If you are into LGBTQ+ love stories, this is definitely for you.

Great Story and Narration!

I love this series but somehow had missed reading the 1st book! I really enjoyed listening to it! The story itself is fantastic, and Devon and Brandon build such a fantastic relationship that they are able to handle all the pitfalls along their way. The narration was really great! It was engaging to listen to and really brought the story to life.

Wonderful story!

Devin and Brandon are made for each other. Devin is dealing with coming out, because he doesn’t think his parents and their mormon ways will be accepting of him. He feels like he is going to loose his family, even though he’s not really around them anymore. Brandon is also dealing with coming out to his family but he doesn’t expect any issues with his family, his brother has dated men before so he is not concerned. Once they figure out that what they really want is each other they decide to take everything slowly. Together they made it work. I definitely recommend this book to everyone who loves mm romance stories with sexual awakenings.

Awkward First Love!

Devin and Brandon really were perfect for each other. Over the course of this story, they both grow up and learn with each other who they are really meant to be. I could picture Devin our gorgeous singer on the cover vividly. How could Brandon resist? It is very sweet and a little bit angsty which brought in the realism of being in your early 20's just trying to figure yourself out. It is actually a Slow burn as these two accept themselves and each other as a couple. Steamy yet awkward first times ensue as their relationship progresses which were beautiful to experience with them. This was my first listen with narrator Finnley Cole, and I thought he was quite perfect for these two awkward boys!

Sweet, awkward naive guys

Both of these guys—Devon especially—are so clueless and awkward that it’s adorable—even when it’s frustrating.
Thanks to the author generously providing ARCs, I was able to read the last two books in this series, and really enjoyed them. So even though I’m kind of going backwards in the series at this point, it’s fine because she wrote each one as a stand-alone, even though they’re each interconnected.

I also really appreciate how she lists the trigger warnings at the start of the book—even in the audio version! I listen to a TON of audiobooks and in my experience, this is rarely done. Kudos!

I love the way it all came together

Another amazing story from Christie, narration was as good as the story. Devin and Brandon had some hurdles to go through but nothing to bad that throws the story off. Thank you Christie (Finnley).
