About this listen

Their love had the power of a runaway freight train, and the potential to be just as destructive.

The tempestuous sequel to Bad Things picks up where the first book left off. Reeling from a profound loss, Tristan and Danika struggle to pick up the pieces and build a life together, but the hard habits of a lifetime are not so easy to escape.

Rock Bottom takes us on a dual point of view journey through addiction and desire, through love and agony, and answers the question we've been asking since these characters were introduced in Grounded: What happened between Tristan and Danika?

Dankia:

Even love couldn't cushion a fall like ours. My love for Tristan was so big that I felt consumed by it, and even so, it was not enough to overpower our combined demons.

I struggled. I yelled and screamed. I scratched and kicked.

I fought like hell, but even the most determined fighters have to stop before they break.

No one could say I didn't fight for him.

"I love you," I spoke softly into his ear.

He gripped me harder. "I can't ever lose you, Danika. I'm not sure I'd survive it."

"You've got me. And I'm not going anywhere. Not ever."

I meant the words when I said them, but life had other plans for us.

I'd have given my life for that fight. In fact, I very nearly did.

Tristan:

She was the one.

If I'd ever had a doubt, I didn't now. She was the one I'd be thinking about, longing for, until I took my last breath. If I lost her tomorrow, I'd pine for her like a lovesick fool.

This was the kind of love that only hit you once in your life.

This book is intended for readers 18 and up.

NICE FOLLOWUP TO IN FLIGHT SERIES

Any additional comments?

In my opinion, this series is a nice follow-up to the In Flight series, but it is just that -- a follow-up. Without the threads of curiosity spun in the first series, I'm not sure I would like this series very much. It's a bit slow moving - repeating common themes over and over. I kept wanting to fast forward to get to the part mentioned in the In Flight series and to the good parts I was hoping would come. Additionally, the narration was a bit off. Sarah Naughton's impression of Tristan's voice and intonation was weird to me. She made him seem almost too young and careless when he was, in fact, a very intense character. Perhaps it would have been better if Lilley would have kept the same narrator for all books which shared characters.

I can't even...

😭😭😭 These emojis say it all. I did not expect this to happen to our pair and others in the book. My goodness my heart went out to Dannika and Tristian and all the crap they went through. I cried so much during the last few chapters. 😭😭😭 Such a addicting heart wrenching series!

Not only is it a great story and inspiring the narration is great too. This encourages people that struggle with addiction to get help.

Why isn't this book longer!!

Would you listen to Rock Bottom again? Why?

Yes! It was just a roller coaster ride with Tristan and Danika that never stopped. There was always something happening to them and their relationship.

What other book might you compare Rock Bottom to and why?

The Crossfire series. It was a well rounded story of lives and not just a series of sexual encounters that makes this series a good read.

What about Chris Ruen and Sarah Naughton ’s performance did you like?

Loved both narrators. They had the perfect voices for these characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I was so tiered from trying to stay up many nights to listen to just a few more minutes.

The best of times... the worst of times

I thoroughly enjoyed the first part of this book but the second part was so depressing. There is only so much loss a person can take...we shall see where the final book takes us.

Excellent story so far

I have enjoyed reading about Tristan and Danika so far. Their story is a bitter sweet one. As a 30 something reading about 20 something year olds is frustrating but poignant to see all the red flags popping up and to see the trainwreck coming and not be able to do anything for them. The mistakes we make when we're young, some are worst than others.
Well written and performed.

Tristan & Danika

****REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS DO NOT READ THIS REVIEW IF YOU HAVE NOT YET READ BOOK 2*****

I really loved this book and the 1st book, however I feel like Danika lost enough by the end... I feel like after losing her husband, two babies, her dream of being a dancer and so much more... that making it so she was unable to have/carry anymore babies just went to far.... I literally cried ugly tears the last couple hours of this book and I appreciate how the author showed how ugly and unfair life can be but after a horrific childhood that included rape and abandonment.. & her teen/young adult life that was sometimes beautiful but mostly tragic and heartbreaking.. I feel like her still being able to someday conceive and carry a baby might have been a silver lining... but all I know for sure is I’M ON TO BOOK 3!! THE FINAL BOOK!

Sad

Too sad. I want to read a love story that ends happy, to forget the sadness in real life. Don't want to feel worse!
