I really liked the previous book in this series. However, the narrators were terrible! They had no emotion or inflection.

Give me an alpha male and a strong female lead and I am hooked. Safeguard has both of these, and I was hooked from the first line. This is book two of the series, and though there are overlapping characters, it easily stands alone. Zach is an NYC police officer and a member of the club Verge. He meets Beatrice and finds her response to him just what he is looking for. He is all in for this woman. Beatrice craves everything Zach gives her, but is she willing to be his submissive? This is story of self discovery for Beatrice. She is a woman that I really enjoyed getting to know, asking herself all the questions, working through the answers and her feelings. Add in that Zach is so protective and you can feel his love, it makes their story so worth this listen. Henry also adds great layers with crazy family members, interactions with Diana and Tobias from Deliverance and an edge of suspense that kept me guessing to the end. This is a wonderful addition to the series.

Gunnar Qualen and Jenna St. Claire bring this story to life with their wonderful narration. Zach is a character is strong, alpha, and needs a voice that portrays every command and every feeling. Qualen gives Zach everything, from the strong rules to the loving care. St Claire is the perfect compliment, with Beatrice. She is full of spunk, loves to stand up for herself, gives Zach a run for his money yet has very true feelings. St Claire lets us feel her conflicts and we get to go through it with each line she gives us. This team has great chemistry and I loved the performance.

I enjoyed this story, but it wasn't anything I was extremely impressed with. The storyline has a few twists, but it was somewhat predictable in certain ways. There were some hot scenes, but the performance of the narrators was just really manufactured. It sounded like they were reading a script the entire time and it kind of took away from the heat of the moment during those parts and almost made them a touch cringey. I think this might have been something I'd have liked a bit more if reading it instead of listening to it for that very reason. I didn't know this was a standalone, but that didn't bother me either. I know who the main characters from the first book were, Diana and Tobias, and the gist of their story, so I won't tell you that you need to read the first book before this one because it's not really necessary. I personally skipped the first book because it didn't interest me; I don't have any kids and books about women with kids don't sound appealing to me for that reason so I just skipped it and it had no impact on this book. Anyway, it was good, but that's about it. I wish I could say it was exceptional, but I'm just going to hold out hope that the third book in the series will blow me away. I'm just hoping the narration is at least a little more convincing because I really love Jane Henry's books but listening to narrators sounding "fake" takes me out of the story and makes it hard to stay as immersed as I need to be.

Safeguard has to be my favorite book in the NYC Dom series. Hot........no.....ON FIRE is more like it. This book is so steamy that your device will be melting!

Zack and Beatrice struggle to maintain a Dom/sub relationship. Beatrice is afraid to commit to anything but she desires all that Zack can dish out.

Zack is a NYC detective, who's first instinct is to suspect and ask all questions except when it comes to Beatrice. He is so mesmerized by her that he forgets to ask important background questions.

That momentary lapse of reason brings trouble right into their lives and threatens not only his one love, but their relationship as well.

Jane Henry NAILED it!! There is everything to love about this book. Suspense, drama, hesitation, spanking, and so much steam that one will not be able to put it down. Be warned.....you will desire more when it ends!!

Gunnar Qualen and Jenna St. Claire bring this story to a new height. Gunnar narrated Zack as rugged and tough as I imagined him. With his raspy, deep voice, Gunnar brings out the best, worst and alpha in Zack. Jenna narrates Beatrice with a softer side. Jenna brings out the insecurities and desires of Beatrice. This narrating team enhanced this story and made it a must listen to book!

Jane Henry has not disappointed with this series. The story of Beatrice and Zack is extremely entertaining and hot. The fact that Beatrice’s past and family has to be dealt with and there were many twists and turns. This book/audio was hot. Gunnar Qualen and Jenna St. Clare narration was awesome and kept me listening.

This is a great story that has a blend of action, suspense and a Dom/Sub romance mixed throughout the story. Beatrice is a strong confident woman that is also a submissive when she’s inside Verge with Zach. Their story is intense and consuming, the way Zach is always eyes wide open and protective at all times. I enjoyed the way there was a bit of mystery halfway through and I was kept on my toes. A standalone in a series that you can read out of order without feeling as if you’re missing parts of the storyline.

I mostly liked this story. I enjoyed the characters, I thought the story flowed pretty well. There was a lot of extra internal dialogue that was sometimes excessive, but it wasn’t too bad. This was my first time listening to a story by these narrators, I thought they did a fine job. I would have liked a little more inflection, but over all it was alright. I enjoy the dual narration. I look forward to listening to other narrations by this duo.

This book is sinfully seductive and absolutely fantastic. I love a fabulous Dom story. This is book two in the series and they seem to be getting better and better. This story has action,adventure. Mystery, danger and Romance with an alpha male and strong woman. This is a definite must listen to audiobook.
The narrator’s are fantastic! They do a fantastic job with the characters and voices making it easy to feel as though you are right there in the story.

I asked to receive this Audible book and voluntarily wrote this unbiased review. I love Jane Henry's stories and this one has my attention from the beginning. She has created two very strong characters. Zach is a dom that demands Beatrice's submission in the bedroom. She is very much into their sm side of their BDSM relationship. Zach knows just how far to take her and she loves this. However, she resists his dominance outside of the bedroom and this could break them apart. I love how the author lets us see how she struggles with her decisions. Zach gives her the freedom to decide until her life is threatened. The narrators are a perfect match for the characters. Zach needs a strong dominant yet caring voice and Gunnar gives us that deep sexy voice. Jenna gives Beatrice a feisty and sexy voice. I highly recommend this Audible book. With the author's words and the narrators' voices you have one sexy Audible book!
