Immersing herself in work, worldly reporter Alyssa K. travels to New York on the trail of a hot story. After arriving, she discovers that the story is much bigger than she could have dreamed. Alyssa is a lifestyle journalist who's on the road to cover a story about Elisabeth who mysteriously reappeared after having been missing for years. In the hotel Alyssa is staying at, she comes across David. This is an attractive, confident 21-year-old. One thing leads to another, and David promises her a story that might be even more compelling than the Elisabeth tale. In David's opinion, however, he deems it better the journalist should experience for herself, the scope of actions he wants to expose. This, in turn, leads to Alyssa being thrown into the world of BDSM. She will never be the same.

Overall this is a relatively short audiobook, but with some of the hottest sex scenes that I have heard so far. David is a strict Dom who is very capable of introducing BDSM to a novice. Alyssa also has interactions with her colleague Jane which turn into hot F/f scenes. The sex is great in this book. It's vivid and well-described.

There are two things that I don't like so much. Alyssa is married to Ken, so ever from the first interactions with David, she is aware of the fact that she is now cheating on her husband. Fine. I am not against adultery in fiction per se, and I'm not triggered by it, but please don't repeat it two hundred times in the same story. Every ten minutes in story time she has to feel bad that she has now cheated on her husband, but it feels so good, and she doesn't want it to stop. Her issues with it bothered me more than the act by itself.
The second thing I didn't like was the last couple of pages. The ending seemed rushed and not entirely believable. I won't spoil it here. Let's just say that I wasn't convinced that this was a viable solution for the journalist.

The voice acting was amazing! I never once doubted the narrator. I believed she was Alyssa from start to finish.

Overall this is a book that I will definitely recommend to others. The story was overall well-written and gripped me from the first scene. The author Shawna Hunter apparently has more stories set in this world, and I have become curious about those stories. This novella has left me wanting for more.

David was a 21 year old Dom. He made Alyssa, a 37 year old reporter, realize she was a submissive. He told her to always follow passion. Jane gave her insight on the lifestyle. Then she quit her job and became an author to write a book on the Dom/Sub life.

I received this book complimentary and have been requested to review. I really enjoyed this book. The narration is perfect. She really portrays the main character well. This story begins with a journalist who has been sent to a press junket to grab the juicy story of a forgotten girl who was raised in the jungle. There have stories of explicit sex exploits add all the journalists all want the scoop. The main character enters in to an unknown world of BDSM. She finds herself as the book goes along. This book was a different twist to the BDSM genre. Instead of the rich businessman being the Dominant, our journalist finds her submissive side. I would definitely recommend this book. 5*****

I can't stop! It's a fantastic story with a sexy narrator. The scenes are so hot I keep getting drawn back in.

Without giving away any spoilers I'd say that all that build up with Jane had a fantastic pay off.

Alyssa for sure. She'd fit in well on Sex and The City.

Well worth a listen. Just make sure you listen in private this is WAY too hot for the bus.

Alyssa K. learns about the BDSM lifestyle on a weekend work trip. She explored things she did not know would become her world. That experience changed her future for the better. I previously listened to the sequel to this book. Listening to this audiobook had me appreciate why she changed her life. Narrator Sierra Kline voiced this book well.

I really enjoy erotica that manages to be hot and tell an interesting story, this book does that very well. Characters are well developed and interesting The scenes are well set and nicely described. The reading performance is outstanding and adds greatly to the sexiness of the story.

Would you recommend Submission Backstory: Memoir of a BDSM Authoress to your friends? Why or why not?

For someone who isn't looking for a hardcore BDSM but a lighter BDSM story yes. It does have some BDSM (G:G, kink, spanking, etc) but it isn't as hardcore as others. I will warn that it still has some triggers like cheating - the lead character is married so I don't recommend it to those that this is a trigger for them.

What about Sierra Kline’s performance did you like?

This was my first audiobook by her and I really enjoyed how she performed the story. She made the performance seem taboo at times which was right in line with how the story was playing out. She was in line with the character's thoughts and her performance with top notch. You felt like she was living in the scene and it was very well done.

The narration on this book was superb! Now for the audio itself was a bit taboo. I know that her husband wasn't all that he should have been but cheating is cheating. File for divorce, then have all the fun in the world.
Good portrayal of BDSM, sex scenes were hawt! Would love to hear more about the other characters of the "community"! Short & Sticky!
