About this listen

Lady Sophie Baxter must wed a wealthy lord by the end of the season, or risk the ruin of her family. However, her father does not have just any lord in mind. He's set his sights on Simon Fitzwilliam, Marquis of Ashton - a man known amongst the ton for being as cold and aloof as he is rich and powerful. While his frigid gaze and reserved demeanor prove intimidating, Sophie cannot help but wonder if there isn't more to the marquis than meets the eye.

Curiosity leads her to accept the marquis' suit, and before long she learns that Simon's secrets are far darker than she could have ever imagined. Darkest of all being the hidden chamber behind a locked door, filled with ropes, restraints, and implements of torture...a chamber her husband has specified she is never to enter.

Yet, Sophie soon discovers that what appear to be instruments of torment are capable of unlocking the most exquisite pleasure. Convincing him to teach her the ways of submitting to his dominance will be easy. Uncovering the secrets of his heart and soul will be one of the hardest things Sophie has ever done.

What's wrong with Simon Phillips?

Appealing characters, intriguing story but narration is almost robotic - hard to keep listening.

Submitting to the Marquis and narrator review

I actually love this story, very well written, and HOT! At first, I didn't care for the narrator because his voice sounds kind of electronic. But he does such a great job with the characters' voices that I wouldn't want anyone else. If he could just work on improving the narrative sections a little bit, he will be perfect!

William Shatner called and wants his voice back

The narrator sounds like William Shatner with a British accent. He has no inflection in his voice, all the characters voices sound the same even the girls. His speech is choppy and halting.

Decent story, Terrible narration.

The narrator for this was terrible. No emotion or inflection at all and a pause between every single sentence. It felt like a listening to a robot. If you are interested in this, read it, don't listen.

This is a “must “listen to!

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this audiobook. I can’t fault anything about it. It had an excellent storyline, with a mystery about Simon’s past. Sophie was just the perfect match for him and she proved herself to be strong in a surprising way. There were some very tender moments as well as some very hot moments. As for the narrator, Simon Phillips, oh my! did he bring the story to life. His deep, resonant voice made the scenes so much more intense. It isn’t often that I prefer an audiobook to actually reading the book, but this has to be on a par with reading. I will certainly listen to this again. It was difficult to put down. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed.

Scandalous Romance

I have loved this Victoria Vale series since Camden and Maggie and yet again she does not disappoint.

Simon needs love and light, yet has no idea on how to create it himself, yet he sees it clearly and Sofie and loves her on sight and hopes that she is the one who can give it to him.

Sofie is at first is afraid and skittish around him, with due cause, but is intrigued by his dominant side and wants to learn more about it. Eventually he learns that to have the light, he has to reveal the dark and allow Sofie to save him.

I adored this book but I must say the narration was a bit stilted and sounded a bit automated. Not enough inflection in the readers voice. But I did enjoy it.

Toe curling and utterly delicious

Victoria Vale has done it again! Written a wonderfully toe curling story with enough romance as to satisfy any woman, it was delicious and toe curling and heartbreaking all at the same time. And Simon who narrates it, dear god, he makes Lord Ashton come to life in the most sensual way possible! The story between Simon and Sophie was an amazing journey from marriage of convenience to marriage based on the deepest love and trust. I cannot wait for more!
