Good Concept...Poor Execution

I am going to return this book. I am 5 chapters in and I just cannot do anymore. I am struggling to listen to this book for a few reasons. I think the concept is good but the narrator is killing it. I cannot tell who is talking because her male and female voice is the exact same. I keep rewinding to figure out who was saying what. If this was just a female character then she does a good job. The second reason is that she did not develop the plot enough to make it believable. So Rachael is abducted and 1/2 hour after waking up she is in love and walking free. You don’t really get why she was taken and although they talk about it there is no buy into the story. I don't get the chemistry between the characters and I think that Merrick is too weak. I like hard alpha males and he is just blah. I also don't like the way the story is told so I just could not finish it. I am disappointed as the reviews were pretty good. Maybe it would have gotten better but in the end it just was not for me. So I say save the credit.

Distracting

The story line was good, but the listener has to put forth to much effort to follow the her side dialogue.
Buy it on sale. I hope the following books in the series are not written in the same way.

Not So Much Taken

An audiobook told in the second-person narrative is challenging. Too often, I had to pause and rewind to be sure I'd understood a scene. BUT... the story was fascinating. Unique and infused with a historical love story, it was enchanting. I plan to continue on in the series because I just have to know the complete story of Rachel and Merrick.

This book is a disaster and I can’t believe I wasted money on it.

This story just felt incomplete. I don’t think the characters were developed well, the narrator was bland and was more annoying with her insecurities than anything.
The performance was well done, but the woman’s voice sounded too young for this character.
