About this listen

Tips and advice from a man who's been there, for the six million couples struggling to get pregnant.

Marc Sedaka stood by while he and his wife endured endless rounds of drug therapies, 16 artificial inseminations, 10 in-vitro fertilizations, three miscarriages, and finally, a gestational surrogate ("womb for rent") who carried their twin girls to term. He was as supportive and loving as he could be, but he really wished he'd had a book like What He Can Expect When She's Not Expecting during the process.

Most books about dealing with infertility are geared toward women, leaving the man to his own devices when it comes to comfort and encouragement (never a good idea). With the help of his own infertility doctor, Sedaka provides straightforward guy-friendly advice on situations such as:

  • What questions you should ask at the consultations
  • How to help rather than annoy
  • What kinds of tests you and your wife should expect
  • How to console a wife who appears inconsolable
  • How to enjoy procreation sex

Editorial reviews

In What He Can Expect When She’s Not Expecting author Marc Sedaka approaches a sensitive topic with great grace and humor, recounting his family’s personal difficulties with conception, and the long roundabout path by which he and his wife eventually had twin girls, while providing thoughtful and comprehensive advice for any men finding themselves in a similarly frustrating situation.

Voice actor Chris Ruen turns in an engaging and accessible performance, effectively modeling this educational work’s overwhelmingly positive tone. This concise work will prove a great comfort to any couples struggling with conception.

neglected topic

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Anyone who finds this in his search results should just click purchase.

Any additional comments?

The one gap - and this is understandable - is what if there is no good outcome? How does a man support a woman when the answer is just no?

Great east to digest book

Some audiobooks are so long you can’t finish them in a few days. I had a long ride today and was able to finish the book during my round trip. The book is funny, informative, and great for women trying to understand ivf from their partners view point and experience.
