About this listen
Gay sexy stories set to the irresistible beat of the city.
Many a confident urban gay man in the Castro, West Hollywood, and Chelsea was once a wide-eyed newcomer. Every year thousands of young men arrive in these queer-friendly neighborhoods, seduced by city life and its sexual possibilities. In Where the Boys Are, Richard Labonté collects raunchy memoirs and stories about these newly arrived country boys. Here are stories of first times, initiations, bars, backrooms, dance clubs, and parties, reading (or misreading) the codes - and sometimes teaching those city boys a thing or two.

Story
It is 2015, weeks after the Supreme Court marriage equality ruling. A high school art history teacher, Sebastian Mote envies his queer students and their freedom to live openly the youth he lost to fear and shame. When he runs into his childhood friend Oscar Burnham at a wedding in Washington, DC, he can’t help but see it as a second chance. Now thirty-five, the men haven’t seen each other in more than a decade. But Oscar has no interest in their shared history, nor in the sense of belonging Sebastian craves. Instead, he’s outraged by what he sees as the death of gay culture.

To the Green-Eyed Lovebird: We met 15 years ago, almost to the day, when I moved my stuff into the NYU dorm room next to yours at Senior House. You called us fast friends. I like to think it was more. We lived on nothing but the excitement of finding ourselves through music (you were obsessed with Jeff Buckley), photography (I couldn’t stop taking pictures of you), hanging out in Washington Square Park, and all the weird things we did to make money. I learned more about myself that year than any other. Yet, somehow, it all fell apart.

Punch Me Up to the Gods introduces a powerful new talent in Brian Broome, whose early years growing up in Ohio as a dark-skinned Black boy harboring crushes on other boys propel forward this gorgeous, aching, and unforgettable debut. Brian’s recounting of his experiences—in all their cringe-worthy, hilarious, and heartbreaking glory—reveal a perpetual outsider awkwardly squirming to find his way in. Indiscriminate sex and escalating drug use help to soothe his hurt, young psyche, usually to uproarious and devastating effect.

There are bad ideas, and there are good bad ideas. My former fiancé banging someone else—that was a bad idea. A good girl having her first-ever one-night stand with the bad-boy stranger she just met in a liquor store? Awesome bad idea. When I find out my one-night stand was looking for revenge, I should run—far away. But I don’t...because rebounding with Vince is the most awesome bad idea ever. Do I want to help him get back at our exes? Oh. Hell. Yes.

Loose Girl is Kerry Cohen's captivating memoir about her descent into promiscuity and how she gradually found her way toward real intimacy. The story of addiction - not just to sex, but to male attention - Loose Girl is also the story of a young girl who came to believe that boys and men could give her life meaning. It didn't matter who he was. It was their movement that mattered, their being together. And for a while, that was enough.

Story
Not too long ago, Cass was a promising young playwright in New York, hailed as “a fierce new voice” and “queer, feminist, and ready to spill the tea.” But at the height of all this attention, Cass finds herself at the center of a searing public shaming, and flees to Los Angeles to escape—and reinvent herself. There she meets her next-door neighbor Caroline, a magnetic filmmaker on the rise, as well as the pack of teenage girls who hang around her house. They are the subjects of Caroline’s next semidocumentary movie, which follows the girls’ clandestine activity.

Life's too short
Life's too short to waste it listening to such a horrible book. I really enjoy gay erotica, though I'm a female. But this is the absolute worst I've ever listened to. Well, let me alter that, partially listen to. Because I couldn't make it more than maybe an hour into it. I kept waiting for it to be better, then it became to unbearable to listen more. If it got better, I don't know about it. But I know I regret not being able to get that hour of my life back that I spent listening to this book. What makes the book bad: 1. I couldn't tell when one story ended and another began. 2. Of the 3--I think--stories I listened to, there was nothing remotely erotic or even romantic about any of them. 3. The narrator does not fit erotica; of course, these stories weren't erotic either, so.... 4. One of the stories--the last one I was listening to before I gave up in frustration and utter disappointment--didn't make sense. In conclusion, DO NOT BUY! Find some other, actually erotic erotica that's enjoyable, hot, and makes sense and includes good narration.. But this most surely AIN'T IT!
