Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Touching, relatable

Great story. The remembering was rough to realize the transitions for a minute but was a great storyline.
Who wouldn’t want to be an astronaut? Was disappointed in Grace at one point, understandable though I suppose. I liked the ending a lot, wish there was a way to ‘know’ what happened within the story as is. A Beatle sent out from Earth or something. Trying not to spoil anything. Great sci-fi read.

Short and fun

This must be an older short story as he writes, he said she said. A LOT. That detracts a fair bit from the overall story. Still worth the short read.

Story
The Bobiverse is a different place in the aftermath of the Starfleet War, and the days of the Bobs gathering in one big happy moot are far behind. There’s anti-Bob sentiment on multiple planets, the Skippies playing with an AI time bomb, and multiple Bobs just wanting to get away from it all. But it all pales compared to what Icarus and Daedalus discover on their 26,000-year journey to the center of the galaxy.

Excellent addition to the bobiverse
Reviewed: 09-25-24
I enjoyed it thoroughly. I do wish I had reread the previous books so I could keep all the previous stories straight. Some things came back immediately, others took a while. Which would have been solved with a reread. So if it’s been a while since reading the others at least do a quick skim to refresh yourself of the complexities that is the bobiverse.

I enjoyed this story. It started slow for me and I wasn’t sure I’d like it. It picked up quickly and I really got into it. His take on the aliens is original and funny and one would hope first contact could be this great.

Story
Hilketa is a frenetic and violent pastime where players attack each other with swords and hammers. The main goal of the game: obtain your opponent's head and carry it through the goalposts. With flesh and bone bodies, a sport like this would be impossible. But all the players are "threeps", robot-like bodies controlled by people with Haden's Syndrome, so anything goes. No one gets hurt, but the brutality is real, and the crowds love it. Until a star athlete drops dead on the playing field.

Wil Wheaton is one of my favorite narrators, the performance is upbeat and engaging, with appropriate tender moments etc. I was excited for the second installment of Shane and Van’s adventures. We get to delve further into the Hadens world. Haven’t looked yet but hope there is more to the series.

This was a difficult listen. It’s a really good story about an awful thing that unfortunately happens to a lot of people. There were parts I wanted to cry, parts that made me so angry, others disgusted me, some I laughed. But throughout there is love and hope.
Another wonderful book by Nora Roberts with excellent narration by January LaVoy

Story
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

Story
Worn out after decades of packing steel and raising hell, Viv, the orc barbarian, cashes out of the warrior’s life with one final score. A forgotten legend, a fabled artifact, and an unreasonable amount of hope lead her to the streets of Thune, where she plans to open the first coffee shop the city has ever seen. However, her dreams of a fresh start filling mugs instead of swinging swords are hardly a sure bet. Old frenemies and Thune’s shady underbelly may just upset her plans. To finally build something that will last, Viv will need some new partners, and a different kind of resolve.

I feel like this could be set in Anytown USA and it would be cute. But because it’s fantasy and the main character is an Orc it’s fantastic. I hope to read more of Viv’s adventures.
