Meh - only good if you experience ADHD similar to the author

I expected a more balanced perspective of ADHD and ways to care for yourself. I found Dr. Hamdani’s perspective to be very narrow and specific to her personal experiences and preferences. I found most of the information and recommendations difficult to relate to. If you struggle with hyperactivity and impulsivity, this may be the book for you. If your symptoms are more ADD vs ADHD, give it a pass.

And the narration isn’t bad but a professional performance would have been better.

Dear Lord - just kill Nesta and put us all out of our misery. An interesting storyline has been turned into a weird combo of excessive smut and Nesta’s pathetic pity party. Terrible.

It feels like Krueger ran out of ideas. That poor family has gone through infidelity, multiple near-death experiences, kidnapping, rape, to unnecessarily kill Jo???? It’s annoying. And I honestly lost track of what was happening during the narration. At the end, I was wondering where some of the characters came from. Had no idea who they were. Frustrating - let me guess, in the next book, Cork is going to change jobs AGAIN and probably start dating while half-a** mourning his wife. Dumb!!

The auto generated voice is extremely monotonous with zero inflection. It is very hard to tell when different characters are speaking or what emotions they might be feeling. I tried to listen to this for over an hour and gave up. This could be a fantastic story, I wouldn’t know. I couldn’t keep track of what was going on because of the narration.

This abridged version is only 1/3 of the full story. The depth, ambiance AND key plot points have been removed. It makes the story very confusing. Characters suddenly take action for no apparent reason. Whole plot lines are just gone. If you enjoy the Amelia Peabody series, you will find this version confusing and abrupt. Don’t bother.

So, it had the bones of a light, fun, intriguing mystery… and then it detoured. And we spent hours meandering about, listening to our heroine question her realness and sanity while I debated stopping the book altogether. It was a slog.
