I had this on my list for months and wanted it because it looked and sounded cute. Never again will I make that mistake. I was so bored while reading this. It all felt cliche and I kept waiting to get invested because I remembered when I read The Things We Never Got Over I felt the same at the beginning but by the end I was in love.
The voice acting was hard to listen to because the male ended up reading the female's lines a lot and the voice he used for her just sent me. I couldn't take any of it seriously. The story was dull and was just hard to enjoy at all. It felt very cliche and full of basic stereotypes with no original twist to it.

This terrible... I'm so disappointed. The monotone narration mixed with the poor choice in voice actors for characters make this atrocious to listen to. It makes me so sad because I was looking forward to revisiting this series after reading TOG. I can't even finish listening to it... I'll go back to the OG audiobook.

Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them. With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success.

Cute, Small Town Love Story!
Reviewed: 12-18-24
This is not my usual genre but I had heard so many people raving about it. Once I got into the world and the characters I didn't want it to end. The story is so loveable and cute. The characters feel like your own real friends and family. I want to live in Knockemout! I cried tears of happiness because of this book being so freaking cute. If you want a book full of banter, two goofs who can't admit they love each other, and a small town of goofy loveable people this is the read for you!

I was hooked on this the moment I started. Evelyn sinks her claws into you and you NEED to know more. I loved hearing her story and the things she felt she needed to do to protect the ones she loved. I know she's fictional but I truly hope she is with her loved ones again living the life she was robbed of. I love that this book spreads light and awareness to the judgement of the public and dangers of being in an lgbtq relationship during those times.

Sager at his best
Reviewed: 12-11-24
I attended a book signing for this novel and got to briefly meet Mr. Sager. I was so excited. I am so sad by how long it took me to read this masterpiece of a novel. I will not make the same mistake for his next release. However I wanted to finish his other works before I read his most recent. I like to experience where an author comes from and what the evolve into.
Book by book Riley has managed to trick, surprise, and entertain me. His sneaky clues and jaw dropping revelations are always pleasantly surprised. I appreciate how he always wraps up the story with an explanation that satisfies without leaving you angry or like everything was just spoon fed to you. This book is a mixture of his mastering of thrilling, scarring, and surprising you while adding a new air of a bitter sweet ending.

Now reduced to a schoolyard chant, the Hope family murders shocked the Maine coast one bloody night in 1929. While most people assume seventeen-year-old Lenora was responsible, the police were never able to prove it. Other than her denial after the killings, she has never spoken publicly about that night, nor has she set foot outside Hope’s End, the cliffside mansion where the massacre occurred.
