I enjoyed the story but I adore the narrator. He does an amazing job of reading for both male & female characters. I enjoyed that he was able to make each characters voice recognizable. I admit that I may not have continued with this series as it’s not the style I normally prefer but, seeing he narrates the next book too, I will buy the next one as well!

Story
Walk. Scavenge. Destroy. Trade. A simple cycle that's suited Ronin for 185 years. With no clear grasp of his programming, the barren wasteland known as The Dust offers him purpose, a place where his armored undercasing, amped-up processors, and advanced optics can be put to use. The ramshackle towns on the edges of the waste serve merely as resupply stations between increasingly long treks. But one night - one human woman - makes him question everything.

I don’t usually leave positive reviews, I figure a lot of people do and when I look to see if I want to read a book I’d rather know what people disliked so I can decide if it’s something that will annoy me. This book has a lot of annoying things but most are not due with the actual story. It’s worth a listen if you can get past the bad editing that gives you huge weird pauses. The narrators were both great in my opinion with the male making it so you could distinctly hear the difference between the main male characters. The story is an interesting idea and I’d thought maybe this was the authors first book with some of the issues that bugged me. I took the time to find out and see she has lots of other books so probably not. I can say that it was worth the listen since it was included in my membership so it was only my time. I’m not sure I would have been happy had I paid.

I only made it about an hour before I couldn’t take the female narrators voice. As someone else said her William Shatner style is SO annoying. Also the writing style is just cringeworthy with all the smirking and feeling things “deep in my core”.. ugh

Story
My five boyfriends - yes, five - are being much too patient with me. That's pissing a few people off. It seems that when living with a pack of wolves, there are certain expectations for the alpha's mate...and I suck at this. A few months ago, I had no idea shifters even existed! I just wanted a safe home, and this is it, although it's not at all what I imagined. When an ex-girlfriend decides to make my life a living hell, pack rules say that if I want to keep my place, I need to win my own fights. That's not easy when she's young, fit, beautiful, and a wolf. And I'm not.

Good story but.
Reviewed: 04-22-22
Overall this was a good story, but, the repetitiveness of the main female character was ANNOYING. She worried to the point of it becoming inner angst. I’m not sure that 5 men would actually put up with her constant insecurities. Maybe 1 or 2 would have the patience but not all. The narrators did a REALLY good job. I did enjoy the female narrator, it was not her voice but the written story that was annoying. It felt like the author was told to make the book longer so instead of adding content she just repeated the easiest aspect she could.
That said I did like it enough that I will read the final book although I won’t spend a credit to get it on audible but read for free elsewhere.

Too much for me
Reviewed: 11-06-21
This was very dark. Too much for me although I admit listening to the end to see how it ended. Too many times I was sickened and wanting to slap the lead female. Why.. just why put yourself there.
All that said, the performance was excellent, love both of the narrators. I LOVE JA Huss and this is the reason I listened to this series. I’m thankful it was only 2 books so I can move onto another of her series. While the story is one that was too dark for me it is very well written. I think I’ll look for more KC Cross ones as they are more my speed.

Maddie isn’t looking to be saved. She knows the only person you can count on is yourself. Her moral compass might not point true north these days - but at least she’s still standing. The military taught Tyler about loyalty. Being there for your brothers is the only thing that matters - but when it mattered most, he wasn’t.

I loved everything about this book. Yep, it definitely had some seriously sad moments. It was just so true to what these characters were going through, so real. Anyone who has been there.. stripper, vet, hotshot, mentally ill.. yep this will make you cry, break your heart at times. Anyways.. if your just looking for an easy read with hot sex that doesn’t make you feel anything more than lust and entertained this one won’t be for you. If your wanting to read something real and hard but has its moments of hope (and has hot sex) I HIGHLY recommend this. I have never given that review of highly recommend but this is now in my top 3 books I’ve read. I’ll stay up again just to relisten. And I’ll be buying the hardback as well. Also the voice performers were spot on amazing.

Loved the story
Reviewed: 10-27-21
I loved this story. The only reason it & the performance got 4 *’s was due to the female narrator. She just about killed it for me.. Whiney and overly “breathy” during sighs and sex. Just ugh… BUT the story is def worth 5*’s and worth the listen. I think if the male narrators had spoken more it would have been MUCH better.

No trust only confusion
Reviewed: 10-20-21
I loved another series by this author so thought I’d give this a try. I found it to have too many characters, too many clones of those characters etc. Trying to keep up with what was real, a dream or a memory was a challenge. I found it just weird that she could have so many relationships with men that one day they were a brother figure or father figure and the next a potential lover. Add to that there was almost no jealousy among all the love interests, twining partner and male friends I just found it unbelievable. Also for a girl who got burned & used by so many people, one who was so cynical at times she was just unbelievably trusting. After the ending of book 3 I don’t think I’ll bother to buy the rest. I just felt that someone who came across as a father figure up until the final pages and turned into a potential lover.. yep nope I’m out.
HOWEVER… I did love her other sci-fi series so will see what else she has written and give that one a try!
