About this listen

Left with few choices after the murder of her father, a young assassin teams up with a brutal alien race to expose an 8,000-year-old plan to destroy Earth.

Nothing about Junco’s world is what it seems. She has been trained to kill from the day she was born and her life has been nothing but a long string of secret missions interspersed with long bouts of insanity and insubordination.

But now that her father is dead every military faction wants a piece of her. Especially the ruthless alien soldier, Tier, and his team of murderous brothers.

With no one left to trust she turns to the aliens, and their ancient overlord, Lucan, to learn the secrets of her origins. But this sanctuary comes at a hefty price and she will have to participate in a series of death battles to prove her worth and go on the most demanding and deadliest missions of her life.

But that’s not so bad, right?

After all, killing is what she does best.

All the feelings.

I almost have no words to describe how much I loved this series. I am berating myself for having waited this long to read it! Lots of action, lots of blood, lots of laughs, lots of feelings. Damn.

Also, the narrator did an excellent job. She made all the characters sound unique and added an extra layer of life to the already immersive words.

A thrilling ride

Wow! My head is reeling from this amazing journey through different worlds, memories, battles and relationships. J.A. Huss weaves a captivating story that kept me hooked for the entire length - and I can’t wait to read the next one! The narrator is very talented and made it easy to differentiate the many characters. What a thrilling ride! Bravo! 👏

Great book for 20 of the 23 hours.!?!!!

First let me say that I understand this is a series, so there is a 2nd book, ergo more to the story. However, it really irritates me when you have an amazing story and then the "end" feels rushed. although I understand that authors write the end of book 1 in a series so that you will want to read/listen to the next book, but I loved this book until the last 2-3 hours. After that I felt like it was just rushed, like she thought, ok just write a bunch of nonsense action and make the ending mysterious so folks will really the next book. Instead of being mysterious, the ending was just absurd! Kinda like hiking for 4 hours to see a waterfall and finding a pathetic trickle of water flowing down a sad hill. So disappointed. Odds are, she committed to X amount of books and her publisher was impatient.

Catches by surprise

This is a story that will catch you off guard, but well worth every second spent listening to it and spending that valuable credit on. It’s no Children’s ride but a ride it is, enjoy it.

Hooked...

I have never written a review and you will probably just find this to be another rant by an attention seeking person.

I just finished reading “I am Just Junco” and the sequel “I am not Junco”

So far the series is so well written and well thought out. I generally don’t read gratuitously violent books. Spoiler: these books are certainly some of the most violent I have ever read.

However, it is also some of the most honest literature I have ever read. It portrays humans in a truer light than most.

I have always felt that I was a pacifist. A do-gooder. A good person. I am, to a certain extent. But honestly some of it is a lie that I perpetuate for myself.

At the apex of it all we are just self -serving predators. We care about creating a world that serves ourselves and We are dishonest in our intentions when we try to explain our needs and actions. This book does not sugar coat those concepts.

I live comfortably. Not rich, and many people would consider me to be just a notch above the poverty level… in this country. AND-I definitely am willing to sacrifice others for my lifestyle. All humans do so to some extent. There is much suffering in this world but we see it only through the lenses we use in order to keep our reality secure.

We allow other human beings to suffer and our natural world to decay because we are incapable of anything else. We create war and suffering in the name of religion simply because these beliefs give us power and the ability to have the lives that we want. We rip our environment at the seams in order to carve out our comfortable but polluted lives. We self-destruct ourselves and all the other creatures living here in the name of righteousness.

Do we deserve to live and thrive, I am not so sure…I am sure that we will stay true to who we are and until the bitter end.

I feel some freedom with this truth and though this book did not deliver it wholly it did help with the consensus.

These books are well worth a read especially if you can truly see yourself in them.
