I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The intertwining of past and present is a wonderful backdrop for the mysteries that need solving, and the most wonderful surprise of the book is the depth of the story. We are able to view people in their teenaged years and how their experiences contribute to who they become as adults. In so many murder mysteries, the grief associated with death is unacknowledged or downplayed, but Perrin is somehow able to show how it impacts the characters without being overly sad. Definitely worth a listen!

I think the plots of the books are great, but it was narrated by virtual voice, which was pretty awful. I would suggest the hard copies over the audible version.

I highly recommend this book! Holmes puts a hilarious, creative twist on the subject of murder. The narration by Simon Vance and Neil Patrick Harris makes the book all the more enjoyable. It’s one of those books where I recommend listening rather than reading.

Well-written with lots of surprises along the way. At one point, I was about to conclude it was predictable, but it had a surprising twist.

Still can’t decide what I think …

I’ll go chronologically with my thoughts on this book. One, it’s predictable. Not necessarily a bad thing, but there it is. Two, I had trouble with the narration. When I saw that the narrator won an Audie Award for narration, I wondered what I was missing. I realized I don’t care for his voice and accent, but had to give him credit for his narration. Three, I was literally disgusted by some of the choices the main character makes and found them implausible. I thought seriously? Are men that stupid? However, toward the end of the book, I could partially attribute his choices to his processing of a major life event, which made more sense. Of course it is fiction and what would a story be without flawed characters? I was also interested in how the author wove in the main character’s faith. I found that authentic. I think we can all relate to people who have a life-altering event and have to question everything they thought they knew or believed in the process of coming to terms with the event. That also explained the character’s actions and decisions as the book unfolded. Finally, the courtroom part of the book was great, the pace was steady, and overall it’s well-written. I will try the second in the series to see what I think, but I may read it instead of listen to it, given my difficulty with the narration.

I LOVE this book! The plot, the characters, the narration, the absurdity of so much in the book — so fun and delightful!

Good characters and surprising plot twist. There were a couple of places where I thought the detective would have made other decisions, but were kind of explained as the book went on. I really enjoyed the the narrator. He is really good! I recommend it!

What a wonderful addition to a fabulous series! Osman weaves humor throughout sometimes difficult topics and captures the senior world (which I work in) flawlessly. I cannot recommend this book highly enough!

Story started out a little slow but picked up as it went on. Somewhat predictable. Some female narrators do a terrible job when reading a man’s voice, but Jane Collingwood aces it. Worth the listen just to hear how well she does voices.
