Story
Freed from the golden clutches of the Sun King, Lor now finds herself in the hands of Nadir, the Aurora Prince. Convinced she’s hiding something, he’s willing to do whatever it takes to make her talk. But Lor knows the value of secrets—she’s been keeping them her entire life—and she’s not letting hers go without a fight. When Lor and Nadir team up to search for a lost item that holds the key to her past and her future, she isn’t sure if she can trust him. All she knows is she won’t fall for his promises and make the same mistakes again.

I Really Wanted it to be better, very disappointing.

Small spoilers if you haven’t read the first book.
It feels like maybe the author got a lot of hype for the first book then hurriedly wrote a second, Which fell short in so many ways. It was a bunch of searching and whining and the dumbest slow burn. There’s barely a plot. I hope that the third book may turn it around but goodness this was frustrating and hard to get through. The FMC is so stupid and hates everyone trying to help her, she’s mad at them for something none of them did to her. Meanwhile her grandmother almost destroyed the realm and no one even mentions it to her. She whines about her brother and sister’s safety to the point of nausea. I can’t decide if I want to start the third book now or maybe circle back later. Really disappointing.

Story
Loren Calla has only ever been ordinary. As a human struggling to survive in a city that caters to the needs of vampires, werewolves, witches, and other supernatural creatures, she always assumed her life would remain simple, predictable, and as safe as her world would allow. Until she barely escapes abduction at the hands of Darkslayers—supernatural bounty hunters that possess the Sight, a magical tracking ability that allows them to see a person's aura—and one of her friends is taken in her place. The abductors are demanding a ransom: Loren's life in exchange for her friend's safe return.

Better than okay

These reviews had left me really worrying about whether I should buy it or not. First off, I do not think the voice overs are so terrible and do not think the male is that aggravating or annoying. However, the FMC does grate on your nerves with the helpless act. But, this is a series, so she has time to grow. I do admit that there was a lot of filler and unnecessary repetitiveness. What aggravated me the most (small spoiler) is when the big thing happens to the siblings, we get to hear all about how the brother feels and nothing about the sister at all. Furthermore, when that penultimate event occurs, I’m not sure why of all places we just get a fade to black and no revenge monologue, or a tussle, or anything when that happens. All that being said, it’s good, I’m all in, going on with the series.

So much world building!
Reviewed: 04-30-24
Soooooo very much world building too much, too many characters, characters switching names, characters within characters, it was hard for me to keep up. There was almost a point I thought it was going to be a DNF, the last of the book was the best, it held me intrigued. The reviews of book 2 promise the story we spent waiting for in book one, so I press on…

Even tho I wanted to punch these authors a few times throughout the last book the end was satisfying and wrapped up well. I’m gonna miss these characters, but happy to be at the finale;)

Story
Once upon a moon, the wild wind whispered in my ear that the true queens were returning to Solaria, and I made it my mission to open up their path to the throne so that they could slip right in like an oily oyster. Now, on this most special and wonderous of days, the very day of their birth–I will prove myself to be the most loyal and dependable of their followers. Though of course, Venus is in my chart, and Lady Petunia has caught sight of the bothersome barracuda once more.

Waste of time

I really liked the first little novella in the story but this one was dumb, I can take the Geraldine voice in small doses but this was grading on my eardrums, and really felt it didn’t add anything at all to the story. I mean I guess if you are obsessed with ZA and just had to consume everything it would be worth it but mehhhhh.

This has been the best book of the last 3 or maybe even 4 of the series. There is a lot of filler and weird side quests, but I like those! I do wish it didn’t seem to always end in everything is awful. I would have stopped the series after 6 if I would have had to wait, but this one saved it and I will finish the series with book nine at the end of April when it comes out. The narrators are great, they have helped bring life to the story. Ughh Darci is so whiney tho! I cant decide if it’s the narrators voice for the car actor or if she’s just so whiney. The naughty school girl act gives me the creeps, but I do love the story!

Frustrating!!
Reviewed: 03-25-24
If this book was the last written and I had to wait for the next, it would probably be my last. Between Tori being too stubborn for her own good and Darcy being whiny, I am truly over it. Alas I will continue because I know it gets better in the next book. I will say Tori and Dario’s relationship and issues are probably how a real life love story would go BUT, this is fantasy and I am trying to escape for reality, not see the baggage of two troubled childhoods collide on how they do or do not choose to live and love, lol. Book 5 already downloaded and ready…
