Many short stories written by different mystery writers that center, more or less, on one monthly book club event on Cape Cod. Well narrated and great stories with an eye on murder. Or murders. Couldn’t stop listening.

When the body of a bookseller is discovered, collapsed in a pool of blood in his Bristolian bookshop, it is immediately clear that he has been murdered. What is unclear is how someone could have met such a violent end in this quiet, peaceful place. DS Cross is adept at dismissing red-herrings but a worrying development in his personal life has left him hopelessly distracted, leaving his usual means of deciphering evidence challenged.

Love this Series...and DS Cross!
Reviewed: 02-27-25
Such a great series! I started with Book 1 and ended up spending the last 2 weeks listening to all the DS Cross books (Books 1, 3-7) available on Audible. Very interesting and amusing at times. Lots of twists and turns so keep you guessing. The main character, DS Cross is incredibly talented and is on the Asperger's Specrum so we get a look at what it is like for him to deal with a chaotic world and navigate social norms. The narration has been great and consistent through the entire series, Looking forward to Book 8, The Tailor. Highly recommend this series!

I so enjoyed this book. So much so that I listened to every book, ending at Book 7. I am despondent that there is no Book 8...yet..hopefully. There are many twists and turns so it's not easy to solve the mystery. The insight into DS Cross, as someone on the Aspergers spectrum, is so interesting and gives us empathy to what it is like for him to naviagte the world. There are some amusing moments where i found myself laughing at a reaction by DS Cross. All the characters are well described with enough background to make them three-dimensional. This a a great listen and I loved all the books so far!

Just Okay

To start, I dislike giving a mediocre review for a free read. The story was okay with some funny, snappy lines and clever banter. However some of the island accents were so off that it was confusing --- it was difficult to believe they were in Bermuda. Anyhow, it's a light read and just okay.

Unforgettable.

I listened to this book over the course of 2 days. It was well narrated and written. There is a tangle of memories that builds the characters, most quite heartbreaking. The childhood abuse creates a sad foundation for 2 sisters. It is psychologically suspenseful with twists and turns. It was towards the end that I started questioning what may really be going on. Not a happy ending. But you won't forget it.

This book was well narrated. The story was an incredible weave of different generations, the varied relationships, with a mystery of possible murder/suicide. Every character was 3-dimensional which made the story richer. The unfolding of the story and mystery continues to the very end. Nothing is what it may seem!
