About this listen

Lou Rosen and Molly Hatch are unlicensed private detectives, scraping by on whatever cases they can get from their little office on the fringes of LA County.

Reeling from a devastating betrayal and a major earthquake, this season finds Lou and Molly trying to rebuild their lives and evaluate their futures. But those futures might not be as long as they hope.

Lou and Molly start what appears to be a quiet case: a series of strange home break-ins all involving ex-employees of a defunct Long Beach stereo manufacturer. But this case will quickly bring them up against an opponent more ruthless and resourceful than they've ever faced before. Lou and Molly have always gotten by on their wits, but what to do when facing an enemy who can outmatch them in both wits and violence?

A cat and mouse game through the forgotten regions of Southern California, including a shady direct-to-video movie studio, the unglamorous workers neighborhoods of glamorous Catalina Island, and the distant remote parts of the desert, where help cannot reach you in time.

There will be grave danger. There will be deaths.

But maybe some things matter more than survival.

this is, in my opinion, the best season of unlicensed so far. the narration and storyline are the most amazing I've seen in a podcast in a long time, these writers and actors/actresses are so very talented and are just amazing. I would love to see a new season soon! keep it up!

Nightvale presents ups the stakes and lands a satisfying ending. The emotional character development is realistic and pulls you in, making you invested. Plus the voice acting is top tier.

From the very beginning. I am grateful for the longer road trips I had to take so I could binge this season; and all the seasons. I love this podcast!

Hooked!

I binged all three seasons of this in just a couple of weeks because the story and characters were so intriguing. Highly recommend for any mystery or detective fiction fans up there.

Unlicensed stands far above any other podcast in this genre, heck I think it stands above any other audio drama podcast in general. Initially I found the unique voices of the two main actresses grating but I think that had more to do with the audio mixing in season 1. Molly Quinn and Lusia Strus are truly the perfect actresses for this story. They tell it with conviction and authenticity, something lacking from many other productions. I can tell this was a labor of love. The ending is gorgeous, each season adds a new complex element that fully comes together to create masterfully woven tapestry and gets tied up perfectly at the end. When a show is this good I never want it to end but if it has to boy did they end it well. This show demonstrates in many ways the deep unconditional nature of love, in the acting, story, and production. I am so deeply moved. As a kid who grew up watching Molly Quinn it was such a joy to hear her in a role she clearly loves and even better to hear her paired with Lusia Strus who never waivers in her depiction of a character with such nuance that requires a deft hand to portray over just audio. Perfect. This show is perfect. You simply won’t find better.

I stumbled across the first installment in this series and was instantly drawn in. I get giddy when I learn the next installment is ready for listening.

The narrator is a stunner, and the character voices are SO DAMNED GOOD that you can imagine exactly what they look like simply by the way they sound.

Great writing gives the narrator something to work with; doing more than narrating…she’s bringing the story and the places and the people and whole world to life.

Great story, Molly and Lou are fantastic characters. The story moves along really well, it takes you on a nice ride and leaves you with nothing other but anticipation for the next trip!

Lou is the best!

from the first season, the odd couple friendship of lou and Molly set an emotional tone for the stories they tell. A bit of humor, a bit of danger, some of intuitive reasoning, a lot of local LA make for a great mix

a noir with breeze, character and friendship
